Rock Aqua Jays to resume shows
JANESVILLE--The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team will resume their water ski shows at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 14, on the Rock River at Traxler Park.
This is the first full show for the team in nearly 22 months. Flooding forced members from their site in August of 2007 and through the summer of 2008. The Rock Aqua Jays have canceled 38 shows, resulting in lost revenue and property damages exceeding $250,000, according to Joel Shapiro, club president.
The show scheduled for Wednesday, June 10, will be an exhibition when the team will practice and include many of the acts in a show. It is open to the public.

Skiddz, I have a suggestion. If you are unhappy with the policies of the Rock Aqua Jays, perhaps contacting them directly will be more effective than continually commenting here. Perhaps they will find that a member of the public is more knowledgeable than their own safety officer.

Hey Skiddz - I got a great idea. If you don't like the slow/no wake rules, why don't you run for public office and use your clout to change all the rules. Since you seem to have it all figured out already....

Yeah just cause the river is 14 feet deep there and they only have kids doesn't mean the REST of the river where it IS 2-5 feet needs to be shut down! Put the damn sign up that says you can't go past this point on the river like they do when the show is taking place!!! But there I go again using my brain...

Okay,
Try to be positive. Have you been to their shows? Most of the performers are kids under 100 pounds.
If a tree can be swept away and end up over the dam... are you willing to take that chance with your child?
C'mon be realistic, and the river at their site is much deeper than 5 feet.

Ya I forgot the Might rock is like white water rapids. WATCH OUT FOR THE UNDERTOW!!! ahhhh
To bad since its only 2-5 feet deep of water 90%of us could just stand up and not drown....

People, it's more complex than you all are making it sound. When the water is as high as it has been recently, the undercurrent is very dangerous for both skiers and boat drivers. It's more than just the fact that the bleachers are under water...it's a safety issue for the performers. They are an organization whose livelihood depends upon donations...do you think they WANT to cancel their shows? No, but they have had no choice in the matter lately.

Ya see the problem here is, the county and city are affraid that it might errod the shorline away and then the Hospital will fall into the river.
Umm if the bleachers are underwater why don't you build them higher? move them back farther? Build a deck that goes over the water? Maybe not build a park in a low level area that will flood year after year... Maybe the people that don't want their land washed away shouldn't have moved to where the land gets washed away! Thats like me being affraid of tornados and moving to tornado alley.. Doesn't make sense does it?

jakiao: if the water is too high, when the boat makes waves it will erode more of the shorelines. and if there is water under the bleachers, do you want to sit there?

I don't get it. They've been canceling shows because there's ... too much water ... in the river? Someone mine explaining the logic to me?
