Edgerton city hall project still a go after recount
EDGERTON--After a hand count of all 751 ballots, the results of Tuesday's referendum will stand in the city of Edgerton.
The recount showed that 384 people voted "yes" and 367 voted "no" when asked whether the city should build a new city hall, council member Chris Lund said.
That means voters recommend the city spend up to $1.2 million on a new facility to be built in the parking lot next to the existing building at 12 Albion St.

If the document at http://elections.state.wi.us/docview.asp... is correct, on Page 2 it states that if the difference between the affirmative and negative votes is at least 10, a $5.00 fee per ward is required of the recount requester. According to the print edition, there was a problem with the ballot tabulating machine and considering the close vote, a resident thought a recount would be a good idea.

Why was a recount done? What a waste of resources.

The Milton School Board is considering a survey on holding a referendum about building a new school.
Edgerton held a referendum on the new City Hall building.
Residents of those two cities have a responsive local government. Janesville seems to lack that advantage. It is a good time to build, IF you can afford it. I don't believe Janesville can afford it, and I would like a referendum on the Ice Arena to see if the majority of voters in Janesville think the city can afford it right now.
Yes, I'd complain if someone wanted to hang me with a new rope. I'd complain if someone wanted to hang me with an old rope.

right now is the BEST time to build period. material costs are down and 20 bidders per job gets you low prices.

At least the citizens of Edgerton had a referendum to vote on. No such luck for the city of Janesville Ice Arena debacle.

I'm sure the Edgerton taxpayers will enjoy there new city hall as they drive on the patchwork quilt of asphalt roads to get there. Well, good to know government doesn't have to go without, just us taxpayers.
