MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers made big changes to their thin bullpen on Tuesday.

One day after reliever Jorge Julio allowed five runs while facing six batters in the sixth inning of Milwaukee's 7-4 loss to the Florida Marlins, the Brewers released the right-hander.

Julio entered Monday night's game with Milwaukee leading 4-2. He gave up two hits, hit two batters, walked one and another reached on an error. Signed to a one-year, $950,000 deal in the offseason, Julio was let go Tuesday after going 1-1 with a 7.79 ERA in 15 appearances.

"What are you talking about? Suppan gives us 200 professional innings a season. You can't expect to have an ace on the mound every night. Give him 4-5 runs and he's got a chance every game."

Yeah, that's great, problem is that about 170 of those "professional" innings are professionally awful. When the Brewers signed this guy to a grossly inflated contract 3 years ago based on about 8 good starts the previous year they set the bar high for him. Now if you follow baseball you know that most guys who've been around as long as Suppan tend to perform like their median numbers indicate. If you looked at Suppan's median's numbers prior to 2006, then what you see now is pretty much what he was. Problem is Doug Melvin paid him for the numbers he put up the last 2 months of 2006 and now that Suppan has plummetted back down to his career numbers people wonder what's wrong with him. Bottom line, it would have been a fine signing at about half the price of that contract but for what he's making it's an albatross around Melvin's neck.

Soup has not panned out but seems to be doing a little better this year. Keep him. Like the one poster said not every one can be an ace.

He usually gives up 4 or 5 runs in a game, usually within one inning. It's hard to overcome that all the time.

Get rid of Suppan. I can at least make a decent argument for Billy Hall. Maybe not one worthy of keeping him, but SOUP? Toss him. Not worth it. I cringe whenever he is scheduled to start a game...

Only way Hall leaves Milw is as a throw in on another trade like say with Prince? Since Bill's one big year, his performance has been a downhill ski slope and it's hit bottom. Suppan's even worse in that his value to any team isn't even half of his salary. He's here until the end of the contract if for nothing else to grill out with the Attanasio's.

the same reason we want hall traded is the same reason there is no market for him. over paid under performed. the only way someone would take him is if we paid a large chunk of his salary this year and next, and if yer gonna pay a guy a salary he might as well be on yo bench...

Suppan maybe, Bill Hall=100% trade or release. He is worthless. Guy hasnt been clutch besides maybe 2 games this year. Gamel can make the same errors at 3B and swing at the same bad pitches for a lot less money.

I've told my family all along... that he was worthless, When I heard that Billy Castro asked him "Why do you think that you have been with so many ball clubs?, in so few of years??!!, and then Castro went on to informed him that it was because of his NON consistent performance on the mound!!!!!,,, I knew that we were in for some bad outings from him.... THANK GOD AND THE MANG"T STAFF THAT THEY FIALLY OPENED THEIR EYES... It is just too bad that they have to pay him (for the length of his contract- 1 year worth the $950K)
