Aqua Jays cancel more shows
JANESVILLE--The Rock Aqua Jays water ski shows scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, and Sunday, June 7, are canceled due to high water, said Joel Shapiro, club president.
This now brings the total number of shows canceled to 37 since mid-August 2007, he said.
The Rock River continues to drop, but remains slow, no wake, Shapiro said.
The ongoing high water situation has also delayed the start of reconstructing the team's stage and retaining wall. The team hopes their contractor will be able to start work sometime this week as the river is beginning to recede quickly.
On May 18, the team announced it would cancel this season's first four shows due to high water conditions on the river.

Maybe if you all didn't build your docks below the normal water level you all wouldn't look like idiots year after year repairing the SAME crap over and over... HELLOO if the water is at the level year after year is that not normal????
Get a brain.. or go have fun on your cheap azz Bayliner

Instead of going to the ski show, people can stay home and get ready for the hockey season!

The Rock County Sheriff hasn't lifted the no wake restriction. I certainly can't remember the last time I saw a boat pull skiers OUT of the water, at a speed a kayaker is going. And Secondly, I have a stationary pier on the same stretch of the Rock River as Traxler, NOT a floating dock, and last night it is still UNDER WATER, so for those of you who don't know what you're talking about, step back and be quiet, you're embarrassing yourself.

To me it is pretty hard to perform without a stage. That stage was taken out by this past flood in Traxler park. In fact so much damage was done this time around that the club has to come up with over $100,000. to bring every thing back to normal. Health has been a big concern due to the flooding. The area needed to be cleaned up due to coli in the water that was left in the park proper.

Skiddz-It doesn't sound like it's up to the city about whether they can perform due to the water level. This is what the Jays decided to do for the safety of everyone involved. Obviously they would perform if they felt they could because I'm sure they love seeing everyone's smiling faces. And who cares what the National Weather Service says about our water level...

Dogs Rule... See there you go forming a opinion about the subject. We can't do that here. Anyone that has the idea to raise the water level to allow boaters out more to increase revinue for the buisness's on water ways is a idiot I guess.. To me its a good idea, but then again I think Janesville thinks its a better idea for the city to not let the Jays out and force them to Beloit where they can help bring revinue for them.... Thanks City/county/ who ever deciedes this stuff. Your doing a great job at helping the economy!!

Why don't they hold back more water in the lake to keep it at a usable depth instead of having it so low you have to roto-till away from the docks up there?

I hear they are starting to practice together for the first time this year in Beloit. The team is being permitted to be on the river there.
If you want to see the team, head out to Preservation Park. You can watch them practice, and I am sure they would enjoy all the support they can get.
GO JAYS!!!

Also, just because the river level is below action stage does not mean that it is at the "normal" level. The starting dock the Jays use does not float, meaning, it doesn't go up and down with river levels. The surface of that dock is just now out of the water. Once the river flows under the dock would be a better indication of a "normal" river level. I agree that it would be great for the Aqua Jays to get back on the water here. Its a great thing for our community, I'm sure they are anticipating getting back to their home site. They have a lot of work to get completed before that can happen, but I'm sure they are getting their plans together now to be skiing in Janesville in the next week or two.

Skiddz, the Aqua Jays surely have the power to make their own call about the safety of the conditions. I'm not sure why you're so worked up over this. Obviously they would not cancel yet more shows for no good reason.

Besides if it washes away inches of the shore is it not worth it to give the people of this city a show to watch, something to brighten the spirit when the city is in such tough times. Wouldn't it be ok to let them do their shows to bring money back to the city... But their I go forming a Opinion again... Gosh I gotta remeber you can't do that these days..

Besides if the river is not even CLOSE to action stage. And its only what inches? close to normal leve. WHAT ON EARTH is a few skiers going to do... Let me guess the Wake from the ski's are going to wash away SO much shore line that the hospital is going to fall inthe river right?

Umm I went down to Traxler north Yesterday to check on the signs to see if they were still up for the slow no wake... And well I seen a family that was sitting on the end of the dock fishing with lawn chairs... To me it looked like the water was 12-14inchs below the top of the dock... So maybe you need glasses?

Skiddz, the river is down from its high levels earlier this spring, but it doesn't mean that it is at a normal level. The best gage is visual at Traxler Park. The dock used by the Aqua Jays is still underwater as of this afternoon. The top is now visible, but normal level would be water flowing underneath of it. The prediction is that the river could be a foot lower by the end of the week, that would be closer to normal.

What a joke....
http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ahps2/river.php?...
See for yourself Janesville the river is not high as the Gazette leads you to believe with this story... That link is to the National Weather Sservices site where they have LIVE readings from all the damns along the river... Go ahead and show me where we are in Flood stage or even a action stage? Thats what I thought the river is at its normal level...
