Meat animal sale sets record at fair
The meat animal sale at the Rock County 4-H Fair set a record today for gross sales even though fewer animals were for sale than usual.
Buyers spent about $352,000 on cattle, barrows and lambs, breaking last year's record of $350,000, said Randy Thompson, UW Extension dairy and livestock agent. That's despite having 50 fewer animals for sale than last year, he said.

I think the auction is good for the kids. As long as the money goes to a good thing like collage. But as learning tool. The money they make on the animal is a blowout compared to what they would make at the normal market. I have seen kids sell animals later at the market and go wait that's all I got.

Yes the fur & feather sale starts at 10 am today , registration starts at 9:30. There are lots of nice chickens, ducks, rabbits and goats to choose from. If you don't need a critter, come and bid anyways...you can always donate the animal back into the sale and then when it is resold all of the money goes to the scholarship fund that is set up for the members in the poultry, goat and rabbit project. I believe this year we have 4 scholarships that we are able to give out.

Thanks to everyone for supporting the youth this year at the fair.
