Capital Times files lawsuit against Doyle
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Capital Times newspaper has filed a lawsuit against Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle over an open records issue.
The lawsuit filed Thursday in Dane County Circuit Court alleges that Doyle's office took too long to comply with a records request submitted June 4 for information about nine finalists for three judge openings.
Doyle fulfilled the request on July 8 just 90 minutes before he announced his picks for the openings.
The open records law requires requests to be fulfilled in a timely manner.
Capital Times editor Paul Fanlund says the governor's office clearly delayed releasing the records.
Doyle spokesman Lee Sensenbrenner calls the lawsuit "unnecessary chest thumping" that will cost taxpayers money.

"Doyle spokesman Lee Sensenbrenner calls the lawsuit "unnecessary chest thumping" that will cost taxpayers money"
And when exactly in this crook's career as governor of this state has he ever been concerned with costing the taxpayers money?

I'd rather use taxpayer money to pay a lawsuit judgement to a newspaper that will TRY to keep Diamond Jim on the straight and narrow than to give it to people buying new cars at $4500 a crack.

I can't tell if monetary damages are sought or not, but 34 days would not be considered a timely response by any measure.

If he runs, and I hope he will, I will vote for him. I would hate to see my beloved Wisconsin return to the corruption of the Tommy Thompson era.

It's probably less than what expenses he charges the state without benefit of receipts, etc., for the number of years he's been in office.

We should not ignore failure to follow the law, but it is not the responsibility of the Capitol Times to enforce the law. You will correct me if I am wrong, but the lawsuit is probably seeking monetary and punitive damages. Granted, this may only be a tactic to draw attention to a recognized violation, but aren't most newspapers a little strapped for cash these days?

Before you get too excited, think about how much this lawsuit is going to cost the taxpayers.

Doyle is out of control. He thinks he can get away with anything he wants. Too bad the recall group suspended their work. Every day he is in office is a black day for our state.
I too am a libertarian. It is time for new faces in government and term limits.
