Wis. domestic partners need birth certificates
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Same-sex couples must provide certified copies of their birth certificates before they will qualify for Wisconsin's new domestic partnership registry.
Department of Health Services Secretary Karen Timberlake says those documents can be found in one's birth county or through the state's vital records office. She says those born in other states should contact offices there.
She says it's important for couples hoping to be among the first to register on Monday to plan ahead and make sure they bring those documents.
Timberlake says applicants should bring current photo IDs and proof they have lived in the county for 30 days. She says they will be asked for their Social Security numbers but will not have to show their cards.

ktaustin, the thinking is that simply registering partnerships does not violate the amendment. The long run strategy is probably ultimately to challenge the constitutionality of the amendment itself.

It never ceases to amaze me at how simple minded janesville people are. If it doesn't affect you why the heck do you care?!?!?! I know plenty of opposite sex couples that had no business going into a marriage. Wake up this isn't 1900 anymore!

Is this an effort to replace those families Rock County will lose from the GM transfer? Wonderful, let the "parade" begin. Unbelievable.

I thought the constitutional amendment was worded to ban same-sex marriage AND any type of union having the same or very similar properties, such as domestic partnerships. Did I miss something, or has this been interpreted to not resemble marriage?
