British billionaire to make announcement in Wis.
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — A British billionaire who is financing efforts to create commercial space travel says he has something important to announce in Wisconsin.
Virgin Group Chairman Sir Richard Branson is attending the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual AirVenture gathering in Oshkosh. Branson and engineer Burt Rutan have been building a plane that will launch a spaceship from the upper atmosphere into space. Passengers will be able to climb aboard for $200,000 a ticket.
The launcher plane, dubbed WhiteKnightTwo, is on display at the air fest.
Branson says he has a "huge" announcement to make at the air festival Tuesday. He's not giving any hints, but says it could involve millions of dollars.

It was an Abu Dhabi investor buying 1/3 of Virgin Galactic for $280M, making the entire company have a theoretical valuation of around $1 billion.
.
It's not a Wisconsin story but it is pretty big news (in aerospace terms).

sannio, I was just going to tell rooster not to forget Diamond Jim, but as you pointed out, that would be too nice of a trip for those people and definitely for Jimbo.

rooster - Who do you think would step up to fill the void if he sent the city council to the Moon? You need to consider the consequences of a C.A.R.D. takeover. Besides, no fair they get to go and not me!

Maybe he's going to build a space port in Lake Geneva. Wasn't the Air Force going to do that once? I think it ended up in Colorado Springs CO instead.

Well, I know an empty building that could support future efforts if Sir Branson has plans.
