GE Oil and Gas to lay off 93 from Oshkosh site
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Nearly 100 workers at the GE Oil and Gas facility in Oshkosh will be laid off. The company says 93 jobs will be cut by mid-September. That’s about one-third of the manufacturing facility’s 270 employees.
Human resources director Jim Mutsch says the move was prompted by difficult business conditions in the oil and gas industry.
The Oshkosh facility makes high-speed compressors for refineries and pipelines that are mainly used in the natural-gas industry.
Shane Reph is the general manager for GE’s North American division. He says the company resorted to layoffs only after trying other cost-saving measures, including cutting workers’ hours.
The company informed the state about the looming layoffs in a letter released Thursday.
