JANESVILLE -- A former Milton High School employee accused of having a sexual relationship with a student was sentenced Tuesday to six months in jail and four years probation.

Jamie S. Dutcher, 32, of 3744 Sandhill Drive, Janesville, pleaded guilty or no contest to one felony charge of sexual assault of a student by school staff, four misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree sexual assault and one misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

If he completes probation, the felony charge will be dismissed.

Dutcher admitted to the charges as part of a plea agreement. In exchange, three felony charges of sexual assault of a student by school staff and four felony charges of child enticement were dismissed.

Dutcher is accused of having several online conversations with a 17-year-old student, then sending her instant messages asking her to meet, according to the criminal complaint.

Dutcher met the girl four times at hotel and bowling alley parking lots, according to the criminal complaint.

When they met, the two kissed while Dutcher touched her inappropriately outside her clothes, according to the criminal complaint.

I'm assuming thekid is rather sarcastic. Jail or prison-- 'cho mo's' ARE NOT treated as other inmates by the inmates themselves.

We need a 16 YO age of consent. Not to excuse this behavior, but unless they are disabled, 16y-17 YOs are NOT CHILDREN! A lot of the "sex crime/predator" stuff is really just 18-19 YOs with eager-beaver 16-17 YOs, which wastes time, clogs the courts, and hardly makes it predation! Doubt it was anything more than that in this case, as well as the Milton PD liaison officer's case, either!

JoeSchmo, "the scary part of this case" as you stated is not true. She contacted him first, and he never assumed a false identity. Check the police records.

The scary part of this case is that he confronted this girl under false pretenses- a fake online name, age, etc. It doesn't matter if she was 17 or 13. It was illegal, he was a school employee, and she may not have known his true age when she began speaking to him online. Pleading guilty was the respectable thing to do. I hope that he can be recuperated and he and his family can have a long, happy life together.

I'm not making light of this either, but it amazes me that he gets 6 months in jail for this while Donte Stallworth gets 24 days for DUI manslaughter. Guess it depends on who you are and how much money you have.

Personally, I'm impressed with a 6-month sentence after being charged with 8 felonies! Either change the law, or get serious about prosecution!

He didn't technically admit it...

also I'm still annoyed at the injustice of 17 yr olds being 'child victims' or 'automatic adult violators'. It's not fair to assume they make adult decisions and punish them as adults if we also assume they are children unknowing of their actions and treat them as a child when they are victimized (or not!).

Not to make light of the situation because I am not ok with it but it's not like he was coercing a 13yr old or something.

What is in the water in Milton? Firt the police school liason officer, and now a school employee. As Diamond David Lee Roth would say: "I am hot for teacher"......
