Evansville faces $132,000 budget shortfall
City leaders say everything is open for discussion, including furloughs, to close the city’s $132,000 gap in next year’s budget.
That shortfall—more than 6 percent of the budget—needs to be closed just to match this year’s budget before looking at any kind of budget increases, City Administrator Dan Wietecha told the city council Tuesday night.
“That’s why we need any and every good idea we can get,” he said.
The council and many department heads met to begin discussion on the 2010 budget and hear a presentation from the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance.
The city created a new e-mail address for taxpayers to send budget ideas. The address is budget@ci.evansville.wi.gov.

Maybe they should go to the developers who lined their greedy pockets while putting the city in the position to need a new Waste Water Treatment Facility, pushing the the limits of the school facilities, etc. The one good side effect of this recession is that uncontrolled growth has stopped.

Here is an idea!
Allow people to have their names' engraved in the neat bricks on Main Street. You could put your kids name, parents name, a memorial for a loved one. The city could charge $20.00 per brick. That is only 6,600 bricks and the deficit is covered.

Why in budget shortfalls does the employee get furloughed? It is the people making the big bucks who screwed up, not the people doing the work! They are the ones who make the decisions how to spend, the employee just does the work. In the end they get screwed! I am not sure this is the American way.....

No surprise. I am sure they could take 'back' some of the money they spend on foolish things. They did this to them selves unfortunately its Evansville citizens that are screwed.
