2 more Wisconsin lawmakers took questionable donations
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Campaign finance reports show two more members of the state Assembly accepted contributions while the state budget was in play.
Government watchdog group Wisconsin Democracy Campaign says Phil Montgomery, a Green Bay Republican and a member of the budget committee, accepted $550 on Feb. 17. The group also found Louis Molepske, a Stevens Point Democrat, took $500 in March and $50 in April.
Assembly rules adopted Feb. 4 prohibit members from soliciting or accepting campaign contributions from the day the budget is introduced until the day the spending plan goes to the governor for his signature. Gov. Jim Doyle introduced the budget on Feb. 17. Lawmakers shipped it back to him on June 29.
Montgomery said he got the contributions on the morning of Feb. 17, before Doyle announced the budget in an evening speech. Molepske didn’t immediately return messages.
