Janesville police have barricaded Center Avenue south of Burbank Avenue because of a standoff, Lt. Tom Wolfram said.

A wanted person is threatening to hurt himself if police take him in, Wolfram said. No hostages are involved, he said.

Check with www.gazettextra.com later in the day or Monday's paper for more details.

doc0430 - Sorry, no grammar police here. Your posts are very difficult to follow which makes them seem incoherent, however, if you are OK with that then so be it.

For those of you complaining about not getting an update every few minutes... maybe you should consider applying at the gazette. You are obviously MUCH better at this than they are, so why don't you do something about it? But of course you won't. Then you'll have people complaining about you and you wouldn't like that. You want to be the ones that do all the complaining. It's amazing to see how many people on these forums complain. I see the same screen name over and over again. It can be a story about sunshine and roses and of course SOMEONE (you know who you are), goes in and says "Yeah, but that rose has a thorn. I don't think the gazette should post pictures like that. It's inappropriate. And why is the sun so bright?"

Why don't you complainers do something about the world and the perceived problems instead of sitting in front of your computer in your dark hole whining about it?

TJRockCounty~ You seem to be the only other one here today that gets it, no news isn't good news it's just NO news. I should be able to expect our only news paper in town (thats a shame) to cover breaking news and not just during the week between 8am and 4:30pm. I wasn't asking for photos but during the week we might get pictures of seniors dancing or kids playing or even stand-offs like this but nothing on the weekends (even a few weekends ago when the Aqua Jays made their long awaited return to the water we only got photos of the out of town teams because the Aqua Jays went on in the afternoon) Maybe the Gazette needs an on-call staff for breaking stories on the weekends so we as the public can still stay informed. I guess I must be asking for way to much from a paper in a city our size!

doc0430>> OMGosh, if the police have the streets blocked off then people should have sense enough to stay away!! Just because you CAN walk down the street, doesn't mean you SHOULD! Obviously, it was a situation that could have been very volatile. It would be just like one of those walked down to sue someone if they got hurt because they were where they shouldn't have been!! People really need to use some common sense!!

I admit it, I've become "a breaking news junkie" due to CNN,Fox and NBC. I just think an occasional update that doesn't appear in two hour increments would be far more professional for the Gazette. It WAS an important event and it happened here in Janesville so I WANT to know what is going on. As for photos-not a big priority as long as there is a timely update. I think the Gazette hasn't grasped the importance of technology savy and good staffing on a Sunday.

What is with the voyeur mentality on these blogs? This could have turned very tragic very fast and all you people care about is that there aren't any pictures here to look at. Why should the people at the Gazette risk their lives to get that perfect picture for you? Even if they did you probably would have cirticized the pictures anyway. The people standing in the parking lot watching are idiots and shouldn't have been there either.

Stacy~ I was out there and you couldn't just drive up to the house, yet you could park down the block and walk up I saw several people doing that and there where quite A few people standing in the parking lot just south of the house right next door!, so that sounds like A pretty weak excuse to me! Oh well it's over now and you guys missed it, maybe next time hey???????

Doc0430-
A Gazette photographer and reporter drove to the scene, but the police blocked off the street for several blocks in both directions, so they were not able to get close enough to report from the scene. If you'd like to talk about what you saw, feel free to e-mail svogel@gazettextra.com.

Did any of you who knew what was going on think to call the Gazette instead of complaining how slow they are with the story? I doubt it because then you wouldn't beable to complain or give your eye witness account. Stop trying to blame the paper because you didn't get the blow by blow news as it happened. Also one must remember, that newspapers can be sued for libel if they print the wrong information, not like those who can say anything and we have to ASSUME it is accurate.

You can't tell me after this long a time more details aren't available. One short sentence or two doesn't warrant news. And YES, the reporter could get in touch with persons in the Know about what is going on, not just the police.

I work out right by where this all happened today, it's over! At 2:35pm SWAT smoke bombed the house and tackled the suspect on the front roof, would've made A great photo if someone from the paper would have gone out there...... City and county squad cars all over the place highway traffic being re-routed around and away from businesses and nobsy there to report on it, this was going on for several hours an armed man and no reports to the public! So in response to ~eatlessmovemore~ This was FAR from as you put it A silly little thing, what A stupid thing to say....... Maybe you should eatmoretypeless!

People, updates come from the Police. If the police are not giving any details, or updates, what is the Gazette suppose to do about it? Walk right in and interview the guy, and ask him for an update?
.
Use your brains once in a while people.
.
And obviously, if you live in the area, and know what is going on, maybe post something here.

I think what NVGrf was referring to was the fact that when something bad happens in beloit so many Janesville residents are quick to point out Beloits shortcomings. All while refusing to admit that Janesville is getting to be just as bad as Beloit.
