RICHLAND CENTER, Wis. (AP) — A man was shot and killed by Richland County sheriff's deputies during an armed confrontation at a home in Akan Township Monday evening.

Sheriff Darrell Berglin says the deputies were sent to the residence about 5 p.m. after a female called 911 and said there was an armed, intoxicated man who was hitting a child and shooting a gun.

The sheriff says deputies were confronted by the man when they arrived. Shots were fired. And, 51-year-old Douglas Lisney was killed.

Berglin says three deputies involved in the incident have been placed on desk duty, a routine practice following a deputy-involved shooting.

State Justice Department agents are helping with the investigation.

He was drunk, hitting a child and was shooting off a gun!

Nope, his "mental issues" do NOT trump community safety! Mental health does NOT come first! People's lives do. He had a gun.... Too bad.

If this were my child that the man was beating and firing a gun at. I would be thankful for the police officers because at least my childs life was saved. Thank to all the police officers who proctect us everyday.

Is there really enough known to even make a judgement call or form such opinion? I would hope the children didn't see him taken down, no matter what the circumstances.

prevention - Do you know that for sure? Fact of the matter is, the officers own lives were put at risk and they had to make a decision none of us will ever comprehend in order to possibly save their own lives. Let's not blame everyone else for an individuals poor judgement call.

Reminds me of a case not too long ago in this area... "suicide" by a cop. This person probably had some mental health issues that nobody carried to deal with until they dealed with his violence. Well, the mental health comes first.
