JANESVILLE—Steve Sperry is likely to become the new director of administrative and human services for the Janesville School District.

Keith Pennington is being recommended to be the district's new chief financial officer.

Sperry is currently the principal of Janesville's Edison Middle School.

Pennington was chief financial officer at Rosecrance Health Network in Rockford, Ill., from June 2000 until April 2009, according to a district news release.

Superintendent Karen Schulte announced her recommendations Friday. The school board will take up the recommendations Tuesday.

I'd like to hear more about this in terms of the overall money being spent on administrations. Schulte initially made noises that she wanted to save money on administrative cost, but is she really? I don't have the facts, but it seems that a lot more money is being spent on administrative costs. What cost saving devices are being implemented, if any? What are these people's salaries, and how do they compare to the past people in their position? In our economic hard times, we have to ask these questions.
