BELOIT--City of Beloit Police Chief Sam Lathrop on Friday announced he will retire.

Lathrop has worked for the department since April 1978. He was promoted to a sergeant and then a captain after starting as a patrol officer, according to a news release from the department.

He was named chief in June 2003, the release stated.

Lathrop said it was time to move on to other challenges.

Sounds like Bass Creek might be one of the minions who are being afforded "special" treatment for being loyal. The truth will be coming out real soon. All anybody in the union wanted was the contract to be followed and to be treated like human beings without the threats of termination and violence. There's a bunch of you that better take your suits to the cleaner and get directions to Milwaukee, hate see you get lost.

Regardless of the reasoning given, Jason Casper and Sam Lathrop did the honorable thing by retireing/resigning amid a scandal. Now Town of Beloit Chief John Wilson needs to follow their lead.

Outdoors, this is the Internet. If all gossip and slander were removed, the internet would collapse and we would descend into another digital dark age. I guarantee there is more to the story than Mr. Lathrop suddenly deciding to desire "other challenges." Such speculation is unfortunate, but not surprising in the least.

Ok Gazette I have flagged the innuendos two times but you refuse to remove the comments. Print the proof of this "mentoring" or explain why you allow unproven gossip. Its time for the comments section to grow-up or shut-up.

More like a forced retirement.
