Wisconsin regents approve 5.5 percent tuition increase
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Tuition will rise 5.5 percent on most University of Wisconsin System campuses but low-income students will be shielded from the impact.
Under a budget approved by the Board of Regents on Thursday, tuition will go up by $617 at UW-Madison, $359 at UW-Milwaukee and about $280 at 11 other universities.
The budget protects students from families who earn less than $60,000 by promising enough state and federal financial aid grants to cover the tuition increases.
At UW-Madison, students from families with incomes of up to $80,000 should be shielded.

Property taxes go to the state, now? Boy, Doyle sure did change things.

We'll be lucky if property taxes only increase 5.5% this year too after that budget that Assembly speaker Sheridan (D - Janesville) rammed through the assembly and Gov. Doyle just signed! Wait "till we see how much more it costs to renew our license plates this year! Students in the UW system need not feel singled out.

Last year's inflation rate was 0.1%. The lowest rate in 54 years.

Hey UW-Whitewater students...these kinds of increases are happening under the watch of State Rep. Kim Hixson (chair of the Assembly Colleges and Universities Committee) and I highly doubt he'll even issue a public statement about it.
