Wis. proposal requires teaching of organized labor
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A state bill up for a hearing Thursday would require Wisconsin public schools to teach the history of organized labor and the collective bargaining process in the U.S.
Labor unions support the requirement. But groups representing school boards and administrators have registered against it saying they don't want the curriculum micromanaged.
The bill has been around for years. It passed the Senate in 1997 and 2001 but never the full Legislature.
The Assembly in April passed a bill that would only require the history of organized labor and collective bargaining be included in the state's academic standards.

Let's stick to the topic at hand....forcing schools to teach about this....and not wade into the arguments about GM that have been well played out on this site.

It sure has been an interest to me that when we took the jobs out of the hands of the unions, the price went down and the qulity went up, why is this?

We shouldn't be micromanaging curriculums like this. It's fine if a school district (such as Janesville) wants to include this in some curriculums, but a state law?!?!
This is just pandering to the unions, plain and simple.

Minan - you are advocating protectionism. Protectionism leads to isolationism, not exactly a great way for country to progress.

The last couple of pages in those textbooks should simply be pictures of the end result of organized labor.......The abandoned, wasting away buildings of the once thriving automaker plants in Janesville, Flint, Kenosha, etc.......

Next, will they want a requirement that all students must "volunteer" to work for ACORN?
What they're asking to have passed into law is brainwashing -- I'm guessing they won't be covering the negatives of unionization in these classes.

We learned all about organized labor in school. What's next? Forcing schools to teach Intelligent Design as an alternate "theory" to evolution in science class? I agree, don't micromanage.
