After spending time in Manilla, I was surprised how they drive over there. None of the drivers stay in their lanes. They are constanty cutting people off, and frequently driving the wrong way on a one-way street. I was constantly weaving in and out of the jeepneys, side-cars, tricyclists, bicyclists, pedestrians, buses, push-carts, and intersection vendors. Nor do the Filipinos obey traffic signals or road signs. Then it becomes even more hazardous at night due to lack of street lights plus many of the vehicles do not have any working head/tail lights. Hell - Kenseth would be challenged over there. It honestly is slow-motion chaos. That being said - they are the most skillful drivers I have ever encountered. The people on the road simply remain patient and adapt. I have never seen a case of road-rage and only one auto accident the many times I have been over there. The problem with American drivers is many think they are skilled when in fact they are not. People in the States drive in very aggressive and arrogant ways. I'll take the Filipino as well as the Hong Kong style any day of the week.

Luckily, he didn't injure anyone but himself. My mom drives those roads at about that same time. Gives me the creeps just thinking about it.

Illinois drivers are bad? I guess you've never been on Milton Avenue around 7:50 am when our own are running RED lights to get to work on time. A bright yellow VW Bug clearly ran the red light in front of McD's this morning!

Most people from ILL are great. BUT some are real @sses, last summer i saw a FIB tear into a poor girl at kwik trip, swearing he gave her a $50 and she was pocketing the extra change. she was ready to cry and he was enjoying it. I still feel bad for not steping in.

mrsjoe, how do IL people adversely affect you? As msleo stated, they bring a lot of money in to the state and with the economy the way it is, every bit WI can get helps. Do you regularly interact with IL people to have that opinion? Just wondering... I drive every day back and forth to Madison and I can tell you there is an equal amount of bad drivers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, etc... Illinois drivers are no worse and no better. Funny though how some people think geography determines the quality of a driver.

SwissChick- at least he picked the right state to drink and drive! IL is tough on drunk drivers - WI gives him a ticket.
mrsjoe - don't you think in some possible way these "fibs" have paid for your wages with the money they spend in this state? Your a true WI hillbilly!

I drove by it at about 11 this morning and the semi trailer was a Kwik Trip rig all jack-knifed and in the ditch. It missed taking out a few campers at Lakeland by a matter of feet.

They should put a gate at the border & keep them on their side of the fence.

Just heard on WJVL that the driver from Illinois was cited for DUI. This happened at 8:50AM. Must've pulled an all-nighter.

I live in Milton, and all summer long we fight the mannerless, rude, lack of conscience, and in some cases, a total lack of brain cells, people from south of the border. They constantly butt the lines at Kwik Trip, Pig, etc., etc., whether it's in the store or at the pumps. Very few prove to be the exception.
.
PS - They're driving sucks too. They run stop signs, drive 40 on Madison Ave. and it's 30. (They've come pretty close to totaling my car on several occasions by blowing a stop sign and I don't have one). Too many more stories to tell.

It may seem that visitors from Illinois are horrible drivers, which I can't seem to disagree, but they are also driving on foreign roads. I don't know how many times I've been heading towards Edgerton from Newville and have a Illinois traveler miss the on ramp for I-90. It happens so often that I give myself extra space because I know they will not use a turn signal and will slam on the brakes.
I must say that when driving in areas I've never driven, usually I will drive slower.

cardtrader, You need to lighten up ! Are you in recovery ? Just about every post on here from you is about drinking ? What gives ? This story doesn't involve any booze . I think you need to take a sip of the good stuff and relax , or go to a meeting ! My life doesn't revolve around booze , why does yours ?
It doesn't matter where you lay your head at night , mistakes can happen in a split secound . Does it matter where you are from ? Someone was hurt really bad today .
Probably someones husband or father. Makes no difference where he is from . Lets hope he makes it out of this in good health !

I used to think that Illinois drivers were horrible. That is, until I realized that every single person on the road, regardless of where they are from originally or where they currently reside is responsible for how s/he drives! Every person on the road has done something stupid at one time or another, whether on purpose or accident! I see it every day. Illinois plates, Wisconsin plates, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Colorado, Ontario! You name it! Everyone has their moments where their driving skills may not be up to snuff! So stop bashing each other and be more cognizant of your own driving when you are on the road! Make this area a safer place to live!

Well when you live in a state where they actually enforce the speed limit and arrest drunk drivers you have to drive the speed limit and slower, so when you get to a lax state like Wisconsin where it is a right of passage to drive drunk and speed all over the country roads you tend to loosen you belt a little bit and hit the gas, and then take into consideration the sheer beauty of the landscape so you tend to look around a little more than normal because in chicago there are alot of concrete buildings to look at Boring... so thus eyes off road hit semi truck I hope I cleared this up for all you nascar driving wisconites

funny, people from Illinois complain all the time on Chicago talk radio about how people from WI. cannot drive the speed limit and that WE hang in the left lane all the time and they can't pass us. I have 2 sisters from Chicago and they bitch about us drivers all the time.

I dont think that the fact that the driver is from Illinois or not really matters! Anything could have been the cause of the accident.. it says he stuck the back of the semitrailer, he may have over-thunk the situation and thought the semi was passed him enough... idk ..
I dont think people should be talking badly about a guy who was injured enough to have to be med-flighted.. I hope he gets better.

I do agree with beeferer as well. It sounds insensitive, but it is also a hint of the real world. Living in this area, we do see a lot of IL drivers. We do know that they drive by some unknown, unwritten rules that are not like those in WI.
They also don't get the concept of "When in Rome, do as the Romans." Or, in other words, they stick in the left lanes when there is no other traffic for miles!
And yes, I was an IL driver when I was a teenager, but my parents made sure I knew how to be a driver who was mindful of the surroundings.

How do you not see a semi? I really need to agree with beeferer. I drive a lot for my job in both WI and IL. In IL the IL drivers can barely manage to get up to the speed limit (except in the Chicago area) but in WI they drive like there are no rules.

Why does it seem that people from Illinois drive under different rules of the road?
