MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Republican state lawmaker is criticizing a new statewide business group, saying it's nothing more than a front for Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle.

The Wisconsin Business Council includes representatives from a broad range of companies including AT&T, Park Bank and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. But one of the group's board of directors is former Doyle administration official Marc Marotta.

The council says its goal is to develop a pro-business, pro-employment agenda.

But Republican state Rep. Robin Vos of Caledonia says if the group were serious it would have organized to fight parts of the recently passed budget. Those parts include higher taxes and fees that other businesses publicly opposed.

What? Since when does a member of a party who says anything mean they are speaking for the party as a whole (not including the party leader)? To show the weakness of this statement: there are elected members of both parties with public statements in opposition to the parties stance on issues like stem cells, this individual stance is not then the party stance...just like the comments made by the person in the article.

That's such convoluted passive aggression I'm not even sure what it means, rooster. When an elected official speaks they are promulgating views attributable to their party affiliation, or party affiliation means nothing.

The author (wording of title) and the first poster both take the comments from "one" member of the state assembly and declare that the "party" is behind the criticism...but the author and the first poster are of course neutral in their comments and their comments are not to be taken as from the democratic party; just individuals.

Translation: Republican party unable to see beyond its own rhetoric as self-defined pro-business party, believes all businesses naturally Republican, and that Republican party concerns are the only ones that businesses have.
