Wis. secretary to gather info on medical records
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin health officials want to gather input on how to share electronic medical records.
Department of Health Services Secretary Karen Timberlake plans to launch a series of summits to gather comments on e-record sharing at a meeting in Sauk City on Tuesday morning.
The idea is to identify requirements and priorities for a sharing infrastructure for stakeholders across the medical world.
State health officials plan to hold similar summits around Wisconsin throughout July. Health care organizations, insurers, hospitals, doctors, consumers and local government leaders have been invited.

Insurance companies "hacking" into medical records? This is nothing more then sharing records electronically instead of by paper upon written consent by a patient.
Sounds similar to what Epic Co. in Verona does across all of Europe and probably most of the US. Maybe they should invite the lady who owns Epic and created this great entrepenurial opportunity to this summit and all problems are solved.

Mutz...The patients are the consumers. Read the last paragraph again listing the participants invited. Insurance companies and hospitals offer a product or service, and we, the consumer, buy it.

Do not see any patient representation. The patients should have representation in this too. Personally I have found a wrong diagnosis in my records. If I would have been admitted to another Medical Center this could have resulted in being treated for a disease that I did not have receiving medications that could have been harmful to me. Insurance companies are represented and at the present time the patient must sign a release for them to have information. What preventative measures will be put into place to prevent them receiving medical records without the patients consent. What will be put into place to prevent an insurance company from hacking into patient records? The patient should have the right to review all their on line medical records. We,the patients, should be representated.
