HARMONY TOWNSHIP—Two people were found dead Tuesday in a home on Polaris Parkway on Janesville’s far northeast side, said Rock County Sheriff Bob Spoden.

Janesville and Rock County emergency responders were dispatched at 7:37 p.m. to the home.

Sheriff’s office and Rock County Coroner’s Office officials still were on scene after 10 p.m., working to determine whether a crime occurred, Spoden said.

Names of the deceased were not being released pending notification of families, Spoden said.

It was too early to determine the cause of death or whether anyone else was involved, he said.

“Right now, we’re not ruling anything out,” Spoden said. “Deputies and detectives are on scene working to ascertain exactly what occurred.”

A dog was found dead with the couple, according to neighbors at the scene. The neighbors chose not to share their names with the Gazette.

I heard from a neighbor that it might be carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and that citizens shouldn't be worried about "a killer on the loose" or anything like that. Again, my heart goes out to the family members of this couple.

Either way, 2 people are dead. What a sad deal.

Actually, it's CO (carbom MONoxide) poisoning, although CO2 (carbon DIoxide) is also problematic, it's less likely that you will fall unconscious before you are noticeably drowsy. Most people cannot sense when there are high levels of CO in the air.

And electronic ignitions eliminate the need for a constant pilot, so modern efficient appliances are less dangerous. But there can always be a loose connection or an out-of-place exhaust, and sometimes venting through the chimney can leak back into the house if the chimney fails. If you have any gas appliances in your home, you should have a CO alarm -- as little as $20 to save your family's life.

We saw the two paramedics zipping out Milton Ave., I aassume to this. There was one jerk who drove around us despite the emergency flashers being visible for many blocks (he had a jeep, with a little girl unbuckled in back -- how irresponsible), but most people pulled over and stayed there for both vehicles, which doesn't always happen. I knew that something unusual had happened since that's not a typical scene response, and I didn't see any squads or fire trucks.

Co2 poisoning can happen anytime if you have gas appliances. (water heater, furnace, stove.)They all have pilot lights that are on 24/7.

The possibility remains that this was accidental. Certainly, if cops had any inkling that there was a killer on the loose, they would imform the public right away, tell us to lock our doors, etc., wouldn't they?

Have you thought of carbon monoxide poisoning? The dog was dead too. A good indication of CO in the house.

First of all my condolences to the family of this couple. Secondly, I live fairly close to the street where this happened and I wondered where the emergency vehicles where headed when I heard the sirens. Thirdly and oddly my 5 y.o. daughter was outside playing with the neighbor girl when she came in crying that "the strangers" driving by scared her. That was at appox. 8:08. I was watching the car traffic right around that time and I noticed a silver van and then a white van driving slowly down our street. My daughter confirmed that those cars or one of them was the one that scared her.
I hope what my daughter was upset about had nothing to do with this couple's death.

My prayers go out to the families and friends in their time of turmoil.
