Beach towels and moth spray: State will spray for moths at Big Foot State Park
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State wildlife officials have set up informational meetings on plans to spray seven state parks to combat gypsy moths.
The Department of Natural Resources plans to spray portions of Big Foot Beach State Park, Roche-A-Cri State Park, Lake Kegonsa State Park, Devils Lake State Park, Mirror Lake State Park and Governor Tommy G. Thompson State Park.
The spraying is set to begin in mid-May and last until early June. A low-flying airplane will apply an insecticide in the early mornings.
The meetings are open to the public. They’re set to run between Feb. 4 and 11 in Elkhorn, Friendship, Madison, Baraboo and Crivitz.
The Elkhorn meeting will be held at 6 p.m., at the County Government Center, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn.
Gypsy moths eat many species of trees and shrubs and can cause massive defoliation.

Aside from not wanting to be out on the beach while spraying is in progress I don't see where beach towels enter in to this. They've been spraying in Beloit for years. It's sort of a non event. I'd rather see an article taking the park to task for making the beach nearly impossible to use; You have to park so far away and walk the park road to get to the beach rather than directly across the street as it should be. Also there are no changing rooms so the kids either get in the car with wet suits or change in the parking lot behind towels (the same is true of Lyons Beach).

I live out in center township and i got a notice that we have to pay to have it done then i read the very fine print and it says i can opt out but it was so small had to get extra strength glasses out for it.. In the 8 yrs i have been out here we have never had any problems with the moths. I thought it was a scam because they had our amount of land all wrong saying they were going to do .920 of our 2 acres. and it would cost 48.00. so needles to say i will be making that call this week...
