The City of Janesville has declared a snow emergency for Wednesday starting at 4 am. Current weather forecasts predict 1 to 3 inches of snowfall beginning late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. This amount of snowfall, in combination with the snow received late Monday evening, is anticipated to result in enough total accumulation to warrant plowing of all City streets.

A snow emergency means that all parked vehicles must be removed from city streets and public parking lots until snow plowing operations are complete. To ensure that you do not receive a parking ticket, please move your vehicle prior to 4 am and keep your vehicle off city streets until they have been completely plowed.

The best place to park during a snow emergency is in your garage or driveway. If you are unable to park in a driveway or garage, please park in one of the designated snow emergency parking stalls. These stalls are located in the six downtown municipal parking lots listed below.

  1. East Wall Street Lot at East Wall Street & North Parker Drive

  2. Municipal Building Lot at West Wall Street & North Jackson Street

  3. South High Street Lot at West Court Street & South High Street

  4. Senior Center Lot at St. Lawrence Avenue & Water Street

  5. Hedberg Public Library Lot on Water Street

  6. River/Union Street Lot at South River Street & Union Street

When you arrive at the lot, look for the signs designating the snow emergency parking stalls. Fines for parking on the streets during a snow emergency are $20. The Police Department may begin issuing tickets to violators before plowing operations begin.

Janesville residents can get additional snow emergency information from the City’s website (www.ci.janesville.wi.us) or by calling 755-SNOW. To report problems or concerns, please call 755-3110.

So let me get this straight, snow emergency cancelled at 10:20pm, then re-enacted at 12:47am when, of course, most people are reading Gazettextra. Note to City of Janesville: A certain phrase about having a movement or getting off a commode comes to mind.

Is it that big of a deal, not to park on the street!

wclo's website stated that we are getting less snow than stated before, therefore the snow emergency had been cancelled

THEWATCHER...oh I am sure they are exempt. It probably states so in the city regulation handbook that states all of the exceptions to the snow emergency rules, and who gets plowed and who doesn't according to your social status. OMG! Get over yourselves. Maybe if we all worried about our OWN lives as much as what others are "getting" away with, we would all be in a much happier place.

To ensure that you do not receive a parking ticket, please move your vehicle prior to 4 am and keep your vehicle off city streets until they have been completely plowed. - I know of at least 1 city worker who likes to park in the street during these times ( he has a driveway ) - Police were there but NO Ticket -another person could not get his car off the street fast enough and got a ticket while he was trying to move it. - Are City workers excempt from Tickets??????????- seems they are ??? (XMas snowfall about 12")

I am ASSUMING that the snow emergency is in affect because the snow is going to be blowing and ice is NOT going to help because it is going to be way too cold! Why on earth does everyone have to question news about the weather or snow plows? I just don't get it.

My neighbor subscribes to some email alert system the City has for snow emergencies. He told me he just received an email that the City canceled the snow emergency because the forecast changed. I confirmed on the City's website. I think I'll subscribe to this email notice thingy!

Yes, phillipsc really doesn't have a clue about pre-warning the public to keep vehicles off the street due to the snow emergency. It's called being PROACTIVE!

Isn't the snow emergency declared so that people know where not to park on the streets?

The reason money was running out in December was because the city budget runs on a calendar year ending December 31 and we had alot of snow last year (after Jan 1, 2008)
I mean, really, do you have to be so snotty?

Maybe I am wrong, but it sounds to me like there is plowing work to be done regardless of additional snow. And, yet, it seems the forecasters have been on target since November anyway. I think this is a smart move. The folks doing the plowing get to have some scheduled sleep and those needing to move their cars know when to have it done.

What's up with this, it hasn't even snowed yet and Janesville calls for a snow emergency?.............when we couldn't even get snow plowed in December 2008 because of money/budgets. I do get it. it's Janesville for ya. ridiculous
