KENOSHA — Kenosha police are investigating after a 24-year-old man was punched outside a tavern, fell to the pavement and died.

Police identified the victim as Colin Byars of Kenosha.

According to police, he left the tavern early Saturday with some women who were socializing with him, and he intervened when a group of men appeared to be bothering the women.

Witnesses reported one of the men punched Byars in the face, and he fell to the cement roadway, suffering a significant head injury. He was pronounced dead at a hospital, and an autopsy is pending.

Detectives are investigating and trying to locate those involved.

SarahB, I am not bashing you in the least, I am only trying to be the "devil's advocate" here. A person (right or wrong) turns to the media for answers, and when it is something that is happening in their own backyard, I definately can understand why the curiousity can be esculated. I myself just recently had a church burn down near my residence, and even though it was a few miles a way, I was still concerned about my safety wondering how the fire started, and if the same thing was going to happen to one of my buildings. And with that anxiety, I was determined to find out what the cause of the fire was to be sure it wasn't arson and to ease my mind of someone harming my home. No, there wasn't a death involved (per se'), but my safety was a concern so that is why I dug out the scanner I had tucked away for years to find out what was going on. Did I explain myself? I just didn't think it was appropriate to assume that someone was being disrespectful....as well as I understand that you were being protective of the obvious hurt this family is going through, but when things are done, i.e. police questioning neighbors, and not explained, a mind can go crazy wild with terrible what ifs.... I understand this totally being I have suffered from panic and anxiety my whole life, and when something is perceived as a danger to me or my family....let me tell you...there is nothing more you want than an explaination.

foofoogrl: I can't even figure out why you are blasting me. The "respect" comment was for the family of the deceased from the Palm Street incident. There was a death; it was not by murder or by any other criminal means. Most newspaper do not report on a person's death that does not involve criminality or accident (such as auto, etc.). If you read between the lines of my post here, I think you will figure it out. I tried doing the same with your post and I still can't figure out why you are jumping on me.

Additionally, EACH AND EVERY article on here is a perspective of another's interpretation of an event. From the editor all the way down to a meesly little blogger. So, respect isn't what people are or should be expecting when turning to any type of media....curiousity and nosiness are what people are acting upon. Whether you admit it or not, it IS the truth. A newspaper is not a St. Jude's Testimonial.

SARAHB...in 'sara's defense, most people read the newspaper to find out what is GOING ON in their community. IF respect is what you seek, then I suggest you find a non-media website.

Really, I wonder, if you don't agee with the reporting of the Gazette, why do your little piggies click and go to the gazette? Don't you value your time here on earth to enjoy things you agree with???? Your negative comments regarding the gazette are totally laughable when they are on the gazette website!

Irishlady4ev, my impression is that the Gazette staff is trying to do as much local reporting as they ever have despite a reduced staff.

What about the incident at river bowl thurs. a man was beaten and a woman hit and the couple who did it were arrested and the male also charged with OWI. Now that would be local news for the gazette.

These unfortuneate events really worry me being I have a son fast aproaching drinking age. And boys have, do and will fight at bars. This will never change, and it seems the intent of injury being more severe has increased over the decades. I am so sad for this young man and the young ladies who had to whitness such a horrendous act.

The Gazette, as with many sites that permit discussion, should consider a forum simply for discussing the Gazette website itself. Otherwise that commentary flows wherever it's allowed.

I think I know why the Gazette disabled comments for the article "Dozens brave icy water to benefit Special Olympics" after reading a few of them before it was disabled. Despite my constant complaints about Gazette's censorship, I will reluctantly agree with the decision.
