Rock County stands to gain from federal stimulus

From the WCLO newsroom:

Rock County may have some projects eligible for federal stimulus dollars.

Rock County Administrator Craig Knutson is very interested in exploring what areas qualify. He says topping the list are several bridge repair projects, improvements at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport, and increase in Medicaid reimbursements. Knutson says these projects are the shovel ready type intended by the stimulus package.

Knutson has already met with his staff about applying for this aid.

What is so comical about it?
Do you understand economics? The debt is held by largely foreign countries (Japan and China are the biggest holder) via US treasury bills. You do realize we have to pay interest on that debt, right? Eventually it is going to get to a point where near half the fiscal year budget goes to pay just the interest on the debt! If you don't think debt is a problem, read your history. See what took down great Rome, and countless other empires of the past. It was massive public debt.

some states are already going on record as going to refuse the money because the band aid is going to leak.

Something to think about.....imagine dozens of cooks gathered around a huge kettle of untasty soup. Each tastes the soup and then adds an ingredient which he or she insists will improve the flavor, but it only gets WORSE. Finally one cook refuses to participate in the foolishness any longer and makes their own soup, which turns out just right. When individuals finally realize that society cannot be changed by adding more of the same ingredients, they will refuse to participate in the deceptive game any longer.

It`s almost comical that everyone worries about the countries debt.. Do you ever think even before this last (crappy) leadership that it was ever gonna be paid off anyways?? Ummmm, no.. So let`s take whatever help we can get for ourselves and neighbors.

"can't be any worse of then we are all ready".
Well, that depends who you are, of course. As a US citizen; you have it FAR better then a citizen of most any country, even in bad economic times. Things can get MUCH worse, and will. The "experts" that you are putting your faith into won't even tell you what lies ahead, and throw out distortion after distortion.
.
What goes down as the BEST government official quote of the last year or so...
Hmmm; was a Barney Frank saying
" Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are not going anywhere, and have plenty of capital"
Or wait, was it Ben Bernacki saying "The sub prime situation is contained"..
Or maybe it was Greenspan saying "we have no housing bubble"
Perhaps it was Bush saying "we are not in recession".
Wake up, they all lie to you, and no one even blinks an eye any more.

"The best thing Obama has done is state today that he is against the Fairness Doctrine. Good for him!"

Yep, just like he said they're would be no place for lobbyists in his administration, just like he said they're would be transparency in his administration, just like he said they're would be bi-partisanship when it came to putting together the spendulus bill, just like he said that it was time for "hope" over fear (then proclaimed there would be a catastrophe if the stimulus bill wasn't approved immediately. So, if after all those lies you believe anything that comes out of his mouth, well, that's on you I guess. I'm not going to break my arm giving him pats on the back.

Yes, justsaynotomath, I will thank Obama and all who voted for him for driving our country deeper into a debt, a debt our children and their children will carry the burden of attempting to pay it off. I can thank Obama and each middle-class worker will get $13 more per week, I can thank Obama for sending my tax money to foreign countries to promote abortions, I can thank Obama for attempting to release terrorists from Gitmo...he has undone our country more in 2 months than anyone has in decades!

A strange thing when a little bit of info can cause so much ignorance. Remember when Bush signed into law that $600 for each tax paying american. Everyone thought it was a good thing but because it was a republican everyone in the media bemoaned it. Now a democrat gives tons of money to special interests, pet projects and earmarks not to mention another rebate of sorts to every american. Now the president is very wise and caring. How much is his rebate to each american - $13.00 How interesting indeed...

URGH! Stop worrying about who will pay this or that, this is an emergency band aid. We need to just have faith that the EXPERTS know what they are doing, after all, we can't be any worse off than we are now can we?

Everyone keeps talking about how much this is going to cost. Does anyone remember the old saying "In order to make money you have to spend money"? Corporate Exs. have ran businesses in this country looking only at the short term and quick profits. They have bled companies dry in order to look good to Wall Street today at the cost of the future of the company tomorrow. It seems we've been very neglectful in re-investing in our country. Conservatives want an immediate affect of any stimulus plan, that is why the stimulus checks received last year did not work. They were a bandaid and a short term fix. We need to start looking at the long term and invest for it, meaning infrastructue, education and health care. Our country is crumbling now because we have not invested in these 3 areas nearly enough. It's time to bite the bullet and make these hard choices or we won't have to worry about the debt we are leaving our children, we won't have a country left to leave them.

Ryan and other Republicans voted for more unemployment, plain and simple. Thank them when you lose your job, I'm sure they'll send you a signed photo.

Paul Ryan voted no for the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act", but voted yes for the all the Iraq Recovery and Reinvestment bills.

--Ryan knew the stimulus bill would pass, that Rock Co would get some very needed help. By voting no, he (and all other republicans)saved their conservative constituents' votes for next time. (Note: there are conservative democrats and independents, too.) It was a win-win for him/them in the short run. Maybe not for our future citizens...

--Question for the masses: how many have purchased cars, boats, big houses, etc., with loans, but didn't save for the children's college fund, assuming they'd work at the plant or related industries like the family had for generations? Just curious.

ekim8404: Your absolutely right. How people soon forget about the $750 billion GIVEN to the banks with no stipulations attached.

I hope that we can get something back from the stimulus package, as it is certainly going to cost us plenty. I doubt that we are going to approach anything remotely near a gain on this deal. This is a classic case of the government taking your money and then giving some of it back to you and expecting gratitude.

jmags -- If you were paying attention you would know that not a single Republican in the House voted for the stimulus package. Don't worry bleeding-heart Tammy Baldwin voted for this big handout that your grandkids will be paying for.

I would like to know how Paul Ryan voted on this? I would like to also know why Rock County didn't/isn't getting more money? (highest umemployment in WI). Did Paul Ryan vote as his party did? He knew that the stimulus plan was going to pass, so he should have been working for the people who put him in office and try to get as much money for this area as possible. I believe he failed us, along with any other republican who didn't try and help out our state.

There aren't going to be many taxpayers left if there is no work. I don't think people are understanding just how much America has changed. By the way, don't tell Paul Ryan, apparently it was ok for billionaires and banks to get 750 billion, but not us.
