State license fees may increase
MADISON — Everything from cutting hair to selling burial caskets would cost more under proposed fee increases.
The Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensure wants to collect $7.6 million more from fees for licenses it issues. It would receive about $31.4 million over the next two years instead of $23.8 million.
The increases presented to state lawmakers on Wednesday would cover the initial cost of being licensed as well as renewal fees.
They would affect an estimated 375,000 people over the next two years in 128 professions including architects, engineers, barbers, dentists, home inspectors, psychologists and veterinarians.
The last time fees increased was in 2001. If no one on the Legislature’s budget committee objects within 14 working days, the fee increases will start automatically July 1.

He has rental cars so he doesn't have to pay the fees!!!haha! One more perk ol' jimmy gets! I wish it were feasible for me to take a bus and get rid of my car, unfortunatly that's not possible for some of us as the bus doesn't go to rockford from janesville at 3am in the morning! We are the people and we don't have a voice, but at election time let's not be silent anymore!

My most recent fee renewing my 2-year Wisconsin Auctioneer licence was $174.00. We also have to take so called Continuing Education classes or pay to take a State exam to renew our licence every two years in order to remain in Business. Plus you have the cost of hotel rooms and travel to and from theese classes. We barely can make ends meet as it is. The State of Wisconsin wants to live high out of our pockets. What are the service people supposed to do? It is either pay the price or get thrown under a bus. Should we try to pass the additional cost to be in business onto our customers?

Rental Cars???? Why don't they drive their own cars!??? Are these politicians and goverment employees kings? Maybe we should start making laws about spending our money for such foolishness. You politicians are their at our request to speak for us, NOT to steal our money for you lavish lives!

Everyone gets laid off except federal and state employees. Doyle how about getting rid of those rental cars? The dane county airport parking lot is loaded with them so employees can pick one up and go, and how about getting rid of all the airplanes the state owns?? Lets remember all these jokers at election.

don_diego,
you kidding me?
we should not complain about increased fees and just lay down and accept them?
and your solution, maybe more of us will "take the bus?"
when im hauling around the couple hundred pounds of equipment i need to carry for work, perhaps you can help carry it on or off all the stops? and when i need to haul it all to minnesota, the larmers drivers can help.
your statement is more of what is wrong with this country.

Just keep electing Doyle and you not see your taxes go up. As promised Doyle has not raised taxes but the fees have gone up every year for one thing or another. When will Big Jim and the sheep that vote for this idiot realize that anytime you take money out of taxpayers pockets in any form its a tax.Of course democrats have never seen a tax/fee they don't like. So how much has Doyle got set aside for his next run.

Perhaps this will encourage more people to take the bus. While this would not raise more money, it would be better for the environment and reduce our need for fossil fuels. Let's face it. If you can afford gas, insurance, car payments, and maintenance then a small increase is not a big deal. If a few extra bucks a year makes it too expensive for you to drive a car, then you shouldn't be driving a car.

"In Doyle's campaign for Gov. he ran on the promise that he will not raise taxes and will balance the budget. 5million in the hole and look where we are."
Stop the presses, a politician who lied his rear end off to get re-elected by promising not to raise taxes then taxes everyone into the stone age after he's elected, and a Democrat no less, who could have seen this coming. I mean, it's not like there are any journalists in Madison who could perhaps remember some of these promises and keep throwing them back in Diamond Jim's face so that the majority of the ostritches out there who only pull their heads out of the sand once every 4 years to elect this guy might actually, for once, make an informed decision. Funny, because alot of those journalists were able to throw the whole "WMD's" thing into the face of our previous president's face for 4 years, they had no problem keeping that on the front page. It's almost as if the media has an agenda.

Want to do something about all this B.S. Think the next time you go to the polls and maybe Wisconsin will not be in the top 10 for the highest taxed states in the union. But then again this Is a proposed fee increases. Maybe we should ask big Mike he seems to have all the answers. Clean house and vote them all OUT.

the only thing not getting smaller is the size of government.
this governor is a fraud.
jan 30, 2003 -- ". . . Steep, serious spending cuts are the only way out of the crisis for now. But just over the horizon, opportunities abound--including the long-term budget solution: education and jobs policies that reduce the deficit by growing the economy."
in that same speech our fair governor said, "We should not, we must not, and I will not, raise taxes."
he lied.
over and over and over and over and over.
funny, us conservatives try to alert voters about real issues but we get shouted down as intolerant.
were we correct about doyle?
were we correct about barry?

I actually have 3 Licenses. Professional Counselor, Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor, and Independent Clinical Supervisor. The cost to renew this year was $76, $70, $70 for 2 years. Plus you have to have so many continuing education credits for each which cost money, AND school loan payments. Counselors don't make a lot of money, I'm sure you know, but I am proud of the work I do. And yes, $10 or so for each license won't break me, but it feels like this would be a punishment for trying to be the most qualified as I can be for my clients. Hmmmm.

Most people working anymore are worried about their jobs and the ones that already lost them or on the verge of losing them because of less spending and high costs to keep themselves in business and then BANG bilk them again. The sad thing is that the lower bracket workers (hair dressers and such) will lose as the business has declined for them in this area due to the economy and closing of plants and major layoffs. Just nail the ones who still barely have a job left so they cant afford to get the license. they paid to go to school and now pay even more to do the job they were educated to do. time yo move out of Wisc. as IMO it seems they pull anything out of the books and raise the costs for anything that will hurt the little guys/girls....

$7.6 million over two years for 375,000 people amounts to an average fee increase of just over $10.13 per person per year. If you assume that the fee will be directed only at higher-income earners such as doctors or psychologists and estimate 50,000 such people (a number I am completely pulling out of the air), the increase amounts to $76 per year per person. An extra $10/yr for a barber or even $100/yr for a doctor isn't going to break them or prevent people from doing business in Wisconsin, even in this economy.
I too would love to see all of these fees stay the same or go down but I doubt these increases will have much impact.
