Edgerton comittee reaffirms city hall site choice
The Edgerton Ad Hoc City Hall Committee still seems to favor building a new city hall next to the existing one, but it didn't rule out another option tonight.
The committee re-examined five possibilities for city hall: building in the municipal lot, renovating the existing building, buying space in Fulton Square, leasing a downtown warehouse and using the Veterans Building the city already owns.
It didn't rule out leasing space in the warehouse, known as the Dickinson building, but expressed concerns about the price of renovations and utilities. Committee members also seemed opposed to leasing space for city hall instead of owning it.
The committee plans to pick a final recommendation for the city hall site at its March 11 meeting.

Growing-up in Janesville, the first thought that comes to mind when someone mentioned Edgerton was those big brick warehouse/tobacco buildings.
*
I have no idea if they are currently occupied, or are being torn down, but saving one of those and locating all government operations/functions inside, might not be the cheapest option, but it would further add to the identity/market brand of Edgerton.
*
Certain buildings deserve rehab and retrofitting to accommodate modern needs - such as the old Parker Pen building in Janesville -- if just because certain buildings give a community character, and a connection with heritage and tradition.
*
That new young mayor would be wise to spend a bit more upfront, to protect and promote Edgerton’s history for another 100 years – or however long those buildings have been standing.

Yes that is what I meant. Looks like a great place to do business. A stable tenant on Fulton Street that isn't a bar would be welcome.

luvinlife....What you are referring to is Fulton Square...and that's one of the options. So I take it that that's your pick of the options.

Why not put the city hall in the building that is under contruction across the street. I am sure that will remain as empty as the rest of the buildings on Fulton Street. It looks like it would be a great place to have a City Hall ;)
