A Janesville man charged with attempted robbery of a credit union in Belvidere, Ill., remained held in jail without bond today after appearing in federal court.

Roger A. Biel, 46, of 20 N. Wisconsin St., Janesville, is accused of attempting to rob ABD Federal Credit Union, Belvidere, at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, according to the criminal complaint.

Biel was armed with what appeared to be a gun when he demanded money from one of the bank tellers, according to the criminal complaint.

The teller dropped to the floor and ran into another room, according to the criminal complaint.

Biel then pointed his gun at a second teller, saying the first tell shouldn’t have fled, according to the criminal complaint.

He then left the credit union and drove away, according to the criminal complaint. He was arrested later that night in Beloit.

Biel appeared in federal court in Rockford, Ill., today and waived his preliminary hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney John McKenzie said.

woody - I knew it would only be time before "blamers" like yourself would pull the blame the economy quote. Did you read the previous article posted a few days ago that state local statistics that prove you wrong otherwise? I have been firm in my comment that economies don't compromise core values of good people, it just is a crutch for others that really had no positive core values to begin with. This gentleman is of the latter.

Don't blame Ted Sullivan. It appears that he is just reporting what was written in the criminal complaint.

What's wrong with you guys for making fun of the first teller? (S)he just had her/his life flash before her/his eyes. How inconsiderate.

I think as the economy gets worse we will see much more of this. Be prepared!
