Woodbridge to end operation of auto seats in April
BRODHEAD - Woodbridge Group will end its long association with the auto industry April 10 when it shuts down its molded foam operation for auto seats.
About 60 full-time employees will be laid off, said plant manager Glenn Condon, who will be among those let go.
Notices of the layoffs were issued Tuesday to employees and the state’s Department of Workforce Development, Condon said.
“This is the last of the automotive workers in Brodhead,” he said.
Workers could be done before April 10, but the company probably will keep most of them until the end, he said
The workers have an average of about 25 years with the company, Condon said.

I just want to say as a former employee, that the employee's took pay cuts and benefits cuts and did the company people take a cut, No, they got a bonus while we took all the cuts. And by the newsfan5, Woodbridge Supplied GM Janesville and GM Fort Wayne. If you Don't Know the Facts Don't Say Anything!!!!!

we the people of woodbridge are very upset this has happened. The union has done everything to keep our jobs. We took concessions back int 2006 and we were promised 40 hrs and more business. Our wages were froze and our benefits were decreased. No look wher we are today. We can only take so many cuts. We have to make a living too. It's sad the corporate couldnt take cuts to save Brodhead. Yes the economy sucks, but you would think the corporate could come down off their pedestals and take action to help save companies in the U.S..

Please this blame game is getting very old. If the moon didn't rise or sun didn't set someone here would try to link it to GM.(Pssst I didn't work there nor did anyone of my family so I am unbiased) Get over the blame game. It is my understanding that Brodhead Woodbridge supplied very little product to GM. Our economy stinks period and in todays society everything is affected. Similar to the food chain. Blaming and pointing fingers helps no one.
To the person who said "Brodhead will just dry up and blow away" My response to you is when was the last time you were in Brodhead?
Kuhn is building and expanding and employs more locals than Woodbridge did and many many citizens are commuters. That is nothing at all against Woodbridge. Woodbridge is/was good for Brodhead and was very generous/supportive to the local organizations. They are/were a company truly a part of the community that will be sadly missed. Good Luck to the 60 people who will now become displaced workers!

I support local companies. I've supported GM with every vehicle I've ever owned. All's people are asking for is for GM to admit some responsibility in this mess which they haven't done. They are VERY responsible for some of this. That's why people are pissed. I, like many are not bashing the GM workers. We are not jealous of anything. I'm definitely not jealous considering the state the company is in. We're the ones paying for this!!! GM, it's time you show the public some respect for what is going on.

marymac4- Those are all questions I have also. One thing is for sure, in order to pay wages, the cost of the vehicle has to reflect that. I too would like to know what they're going to do with the money to help IMPROVE the situation.

Spark Wouldn't you as a smart business man take your company where you would make more money with less payroll? I don't agree with this but in businesses it happens and we the people suffer in the long run. No amount of complaining is going to fix it . Action and finding solutions is what needed now. Not bail outs so they can use our tax dollars to build in other countries.( which is what is happening)If Im not mistaken Gm is going to build a factory elsewhere and I'm wondering will it be with the bailout money?

Oh GM has just as much fault in this as NAFTA. It's how you run a company. How you market it. How you manage employees. How you manage wages and the cost to build vehicles. How you manage a union. How you manage supply and demand. Smart business skills.

Sheridan couldn't/wouldn't take a pay cut as he makes less then he did at GM. Well he chose to run for the position. The employees at GM did not choose to lose their jobs and take a pay cut BUT THEY HAD NO CHOICE, HE DID!!!!! Now they live on less, why cant he take a cut? If he was still at GM he would not be making what he is as a state REP. and his family would be like the rest of his co-workers and have to live with less then they were accustomed to. None of the people who lost their jobs had that choice!!!!!! When I read his reason for not refusing the increase It showed me what kind of person he is and he wont be my choice next time. IMO

Thank the free trade agreement that our country allowed so the corporations could out source Why blame GM This is getting old GM has nothing to do with my company and we are experiencibg big layoffs. The people who worked for GM are not at fault and half the whiners in here would have worked for that wage had they been hired there. Start blaming the High corporate execs and government officials who get the bonuses and high pay that refuse to take a wage cut and/or freeze on their wage. Look at all the issues and unnecessary spending and support of foreign countries and all the benefits this country has for other countries. Are these people going to put on these concerts and benefits for our country NOW, As we are to a point where it is needed!!!!!!!!! Instead of blaming let us pull together and unite as a country and find solutions to what is needed to change and show action not blame as it is beyond blaming now. The damage is DONE..............We go to war with other countries then we spend our money to rebuild their country when the war ends. And the ones that protected our country have to be part of rebuilding and go back where they never wanted to be, to begin with again and you dont think this takes a toll on our economy and emotions of this country and this is at Tax Payers expense. This is absurd IMO!

How incredibly sad. I feel so badly for all those affected. There are a lot of us jobless in the world today, but please don't anyone give up. I won't if you won't. I am so grateful to have been raised by parents who survived the Depression. Their history has become my new hope.

Without Stoughton Trailers and Woodbridge, Brodhead will dry up and blow away. Just another ghost town.
