MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A lawmaker is scheduled to appear in Columbia County Circuit Court on Wednesday to face drunken driving and marijuana charges.

Rep. Jeffrey Wood, an independent from Bloomer, is scheduled to make his initial appearance on charges of third-offense operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wood was arrested in December while making a 200-mile drive home after a night of drinking in Madison.

Drivers called 911 to report Wood’s erratic driving, which included smashing into a highway sign. A state trooper found Wood urinating on the shoulder of Interstate 39-90 and arrested him. A search of his vehicle turned up two bags of marijuana.

Wood has apologized for poor judgment but resisted calls to resign.

Of course, every one is focused on the pot and the booze. But, Ol' Wood is the only Independent legislator in Wisconsin.
Here is yet another piece of the puzzle known as the "two-party paradigm." Guys like Wood validate the "wacky-independent" construct as if it were a walk in the park.
Literally every "independent" local and national in the last 100 years has seemed to be a weirdo, even going back to Ol' Teddy Roosevelt's attempt to run for President as a Progressive "Bull Moose."
Fight'n Bob Lafollette; John Anderson; Joe Lieberman; George Wallace; Jesse Ventura; Ed Thompson; and, who could forget Ross Perot?
Yes, good people, we are stuck with the Republicans and Democrats for the rest of time. The system will never change.
Thank your gods for the sanctity of the Dems and Repubs and how they have relentlessly behaved themselves over the years. Knowing all these political characters have only "our" best interest at stake, helps me sleep like a baby at night....ahhhhhhhh...zzzzzzzzzz.

Gazettefan: The urination is more likely related to the alcohol intake. Alcohol, a diuretic, stimulates the body into losing more fluid than it collects. It does this by preventing the body's production of anti-diuretic hormone. But I bet you already knew this. Are you, perhaps, just trying to get "the kid" out here?

Three drunk driving convictions is a lot more than poor judgement. This guy has a serious drinking problem. He is sure not someone I would want representing me. Hope his constituents hold him accountable. Hope this guy gets the help he so desperately needs.

Poor judgment! That should qualify as an understatement.
