Man allegedly stabs Minn. man out of curiosity

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Wisconsin man is accused of stabbing a Minnesota man on Christmas because he wanted "to see what it felt like."

Twenty-nine-year-old Nicholas Leigh Tretter of River Falls, Wis. was charged Tuesday with second-degree assault. The Star Tribune says he was jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.

A Hennepin County court official says no attorney was listed for Tretter ahead of a scheduled court appearance Wednesday afternoon.

Prosecutors say Tretter followed the man off a Minneapolis bus Friday. As the man walked away, Tretter allegedly ran up and stabbed him from behind, continuing to stab him as he collapsed.

The victim had a 4-to-6-inch cut on his neck as well as stab wounds to his back and left side. Tretter allegedly turned himself in the next day.

Here's the thing... I never said I was trying to make excuses. I said that better parenting is a prevention. duh

I'm sure the perpetrator is just another victim of society/bad parenting/abuse/weak genetics/unstable brain chemistry/mood swings/bad diet, and a prime candidate for the Twinkie defense.

Hey, we're all imperfect beings, but regardless of the excuse, this individual does not appear to be a candidate for walking around free in the society of others. Though we closed the institutions years ago out of some distorted concept of "humanity,", the people who populated them then have not went away and they and their ilk continue to regularly harass, disturb, stalk, haunt, abuse, injure and kill others.

The "rights" of the few have regularly undermined and destroyed the lives of the many, and a society cannot continue to follow the path of accepting these convenient excuses for unacceptable behavior in the long term.

Talking monkey thinks that because they read a psychology book that they know this person. The facts are that he is an adult who stabbed another human being because he wanted to know what it would feel like. Now he knows and now he can suffer the consequence. Personally, I'm with everyone else and let this animal rot in hell.

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

Moral:

So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!

I have read a lot of sad, odd, crazy, maddening, heartbreaking stories on GazetteXtra.com this past year and this article is an example of one that brings out strong emotional feelings in many of us. Let’s face it; there are way too many angry people everywhere. We are angry about things that we never even used to think about. We take our anger out on people we don’t know and situations that never bothered us before. Basically, we are worried about our future and the future of our loved ones, just as we always have been but now the rules seem to have changed. I can’t control anyone’s anger but my own and in the coming year I vow to do just that. I will continue to help people when I can and hope for the best. JMO

I wish everyone a healthy, happy, prosperous and better New Year.

talkingmonkey: You sound like a child, did I offend and scare you that much with my comment? What a putz .... find that clue your missing and grow up. There are many reasons this guy may have done this but to jump on the parents without knowing if that is the reason just shows your ignorance, you sound like you have problems yourself.

There is empirical evidence which points to parents being the primary evironmental impact on children, which is all I was trying to say in the first place but justa-butthead had to chime in there.
So anyway, as a person has seen first hand the damage that children are subjected to, and watched them grow up, and end up in jail because of massive insecurity issues and other debilitating psycological trauma, I know this to be true.

I looked up the article in MN. and here's the link. http://www.startribune.com/local/8031255...

I think everyone should take a nap, no sense of getting pissed off@ each other regardless if this guy is a sociopath or a total lunatic,he committed a horrendous crime every ones logic is meaningless,.it is up to our beautiful justice system to take care of this now.Whether we like it or not, maybe the next time he does something worse,he will truely pay for his crime. After that thought, he should still be stabbed by his victim if the victim would choose too do so just
,to remind him of the pain he inflicted with no thought or remorse at all. Happy New Year!

All of have too much time on your hands to argue over the issues associated with this person and his actions. Each of you make some valid points and each of you are way off base on other claims. You have strong opinions, but wait for some more information to come out regarding his condition before arguing or placing blame on illness, parents, environment.

I intuited that by the fact that he "allegedly" turned himself in. Guilt and remorse are synonymic.

I just want to know how the victim is doing? Nothing in the story about his condition such as whether vital organs, arteries, etc., affected. Plus, bassman, the guy with the knife won't be going to Waupon. The crime took place in Minnesota. He'll be on their tab, not ours.

MOnkey, what part of the story or my comment suggest I think he feels any remorse? Having spent 10 years in the mental health field I'm aware of the sociopathic personality.

You don't have a clue on anything but I will say it sounds like you have fooled yourself, what an ignorant moron. I see nothing in this story on how this guy was brought up as a kid but you sound like you THINK you know all when really you know nothing about him. Some people are just born this way, it's too bad but has NOTHING to do with the parents.

The brain wires itself according to environmental conditions: parents, siblings, friends, teachers, lifeguards, ANYONE who has some contact with a child. The brain stops wiring new neual pathways around age 11-14, depending on sex and nutrition. The remorse part comes in cuz he turned himself in (albeit "allegedly"... and read the last line jack@@@). Any other questions?

Gary---Why doesn't he just stab himself in the A**, because he's going to know how THAT feels as soon as he starts his new life in Waupon. LOL. Multiple shank sizes, as well. Or does one shank size fit all?

monkey...

...exactly WHAT is giving you the impression that the moron feels any remorse?

Not one word along those lines in THIS article.

Oh, and sometimes, people are sociopaths because that is how their brain is wired. Has NOTHING to do with how they were raised.

And just WHY did you assume that justaguy meant that beating kids is the right way to raise them?

Are you projecting much?

As to having no idea...just what makes you think that YOU have an idea? Or even a clue?

Anyone who would stab someone because they wondered what it would feel like is a sociopath. This is only the beginning of the trouble this individual is going to cause in his lifetime. This isn't a mental disease it's a serious character flaw.

The perpetrator is either mentally unstable, on drugs or homeless. Normal people do not stab strangers. If he is jobless and homeless maybe he figures it's better to spend time in a warm jail with 3 meals a day than to freeze to death on the streets of Minneapolis. I'd like to know the whole story.

Better parenting would solve these issues. Prevention is key. Can't rewire someone's brain by making them miserable.
