Runaway steer will still make it to someone's table
BLACK EARTH — Dane County sheriff’s deputies had to shoot a runaway steer in the village of Black Earth on Thursday.
The steer was being delivered to Black Earth Meats when it escaped between the trailer and the building. It ran into a residential area, taking out a fence in the process.
After deputies shot the animal, it was taken by a skid loader back to Black Earth Meats to be processed.
Black Earth Elementary School was on lock-down for a short time during the incident.

yada- it was probably three years ago. Time flies so I may be wrong. When this stuff happens it takes you a second to realize "yes that is a cow running down the side of the road OUTSIDE of the fence." Do you know what I mean. The brain needs a second to compute .haha

This story makes me completely want to become a vegetarian! Poor thing is running for it's life and it's shot dead; but it "will make it to someone's table"? Sad and rather morbid......

Hey FROGGER I remember when the cow you are talking about was loose on John Paul. It was the same day all of the elephants escaped from the Madison zoo, came to Janesville and somehow ended up on John Paul Road and yada yada, ya know.

I cow was loose on John Paul road once running along side my car. That was scary. I stopped and tried to get him back in the fenced area. Another guy stopped to help too. We couldn't get him in there so we left a note telling them a cow was out.

Dang, I can't tell you how many heads of cattle I had to guide/steer back to safety with my FOCUS because they had gotten loose. Shooting the thing was NEVER an option, even in a residential area!

I wasn't there, but I can't help but wonder how much of a danger to public safety the steer posed to justify discharging firearms in a residential area. I think that the cold and the snow probably influenced the decision making process. "You'll never take me alive, you dirty coppers!"

"Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
