JEFFERSON — Two people are dead after a shooting early Sunday outside bar in downtown Jefferson.

The Daily Jefferson County Union reports the victims are a woman from outside the county and an unidentified man.

The woman died at Fort Memorial Hospital in Fort Atkinson. The Jefferson County coroner’s office reports the man died Sunday morning at a Milwaukee hospital.

Coroner Patrick Theder said neither victim is being identified, pending notification of their families. Jefferson police say the shooting happened in the parking lot outside the Rock Bottom Saloon and Eatery on Milwaukee Street shortly after 1 a.m. A 24-year-old man has been taken into custody.

Mr. Wirth was the victim of sexual assault. Ms. Luick grabbed his buttocks to humiliate him or for her own sexual gratification contrary to Wis. Stats. 940.225(5)(b)3; note that she did not "jokingly" touch his arm or back. Wirth objected to her assault; later, Luick sent her boyfriend in to spoil for a fight with Mr. Wirth. I can understand how he felt threatened by this sex offender and her impaired boyfriend. Luick and Peters created the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome, not Wirth. There are some law enforcement officers who feel entitled to treat citzens, like objects - an attitude that must be corrected.

The reason why the "fascination with the killer" is that this was a senseless crime. I've spoken to people that were at the scene, there was no fight, etc. nobody knows why this happened. And yes, the gazette DID drop the ball on this because this is THEIR back yard, their story should be the AP feed, not the other way around. And 'justintimberlakerules', you're just plain rude. Nice attempt at trolling, 2 points. If the Gazette staff were interested in this story, they'd be following up on the sensational twist of who the shooter really is and his gang affiliations.

From what I heard, the shooter is from Philadelphia (or around there) and had just moved to the area recently. Not sure how accurate that is since I got the info from like a friend of a friend of a friend of the shooter...so take it with a grain of salt. Either way, he is not from the area originally from what I understand. Horrible, horrible tragedy. Just glad they caught him.

Andrew J. Wirth is not from Fort Atkinson. he was reportedly heading toward a residence on Vickerman Road. His address has not been specifically identified in any of the stories. He may have currently had a Jefferson address. However, he has been previously known to live in Milwaukee.

Some people think the Gazette runs a 24/7 news service. They only actually publish once a day, though.

What part of "neither victim is being identified, pending notification of their families" do you not understand?

How exactly did the gazette drop the ball? The article you just read was an AP story. You're going to blame the gazette for an article the AP wrote? You seemed to have found the information you so desparately needed so why don't you just crawl back in your hole and shut your mouth.

The Gazette has dropped the ball on this story... The other victim was Gregg Peters, 40 also the officer Jeni Luick leaves behind a young son, Colton. There will be a memorial fund for Jeni Luick where anyone can make donations at any Associated Bank

Does anyone know Andrew Wirth, the shooter? He was 24 and apparently lived south of Fort Atkinson. None of my Fort Atkinson friends have heard of him, wondering if he went to Milton... Anyone know him?

Oconomowoc town officer, man killed in Jefferson shooting
By Don Behm of the Journal Sentinel

Posted: Dec. 6, 2009 10:58 a.m.

Jefferson - Jennifer Luick, a six-year veteran with the Town of Oconomowoc Police Department, was one of two people shot and killed outside a downtown Jefferson tavern early Sunday, authorities said.

Luick and an unidentified man were shot outside the Rock Bottom Saloon, 123 W. Milwaukee St., around 1 a.m. She died at a local hospital.

The man was taken by helicopter to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, where he died, Jefferson Mayor Gary Myers said. Police are withholding his identity pending notification of relatives, Myers said.

"It's been a long time since we had a homicide in Jefferson," Myers said. "This kind of thing doesn't happen here. It's a very tragic situation."

A male suspect in the shooting was arrested with the assistance of the Fort Atkinson Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, authorities said.

Police are continuing to investigate the shootings, a police statement says.

"The Rock Bottom has a very good record with local police," Myers said. "It's a small town tavern."
