Stricker falls short at the Barclays
Edgerton's Steve Stricker missed a 10-foot par putt on the final hole of The Barclays on Sunday, costing him a chance to battle upset winner Heath Slocum in a playoff to decide the champion of the PGA Tour's opening event of the 2009 FedEx Cup playoffs. Stricker and Slocum were tied at 9-under-par heading to the 18th hole. Both needed a par to avoid a playoff with several players in the clubhouse at 8-under-par, including Ernie Els and Tiger Woods. Both players drove their tee shots into the bunker. Slocum's third shot left him 20 feet short of the pin. He drained the putt. Stricker's third shot left him 10 feet short of the hole. His chance to tie Slocum burned the edge of the cup, dropping Stricker into a tie for second place.
