Hearing to gather information on campaign finance
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A public hearing is set for Tuesday on the system that allows candidates for political office to file campaign finance reports electronically.
The Campaign Finance Information System includes how much a candidate has raised, who they got the money from and how much they have spent over a certain period of time. All the information is viewable by the public.
The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign has criticized how the system has worked, saying in March that dozens of reports filed by state lawmakers and candidates were not visible on the site. The independent government watchdog group has said the new site is full of problems.
The hearing by the Assembly's Committee on Elections and Campaign Reform is informational only.

It is good that this hearing is taking place, even though it is informational only. I'm glad The Wisconsin Democracy Campaign exists. I have spent hours pouring over the wealth of information which is available to the public. I was disappointed to see a trend with WEAC and their PAC. In the 43rd Assembly race in 2008 between Hixson and Towns, WEAC spent over half a million dollars in favor of Hixson. http://www.wisdc.org/ind08spending500189...
Rep. Hixson is a nice guy, but that amount of money in a state representative race is crazy.
Campaign finance is like doping in sports. As soon as one hole is plugged, a new one is discovered. Please check this site out, so everyone can see who the money behind the candidates really is.
