Edgerton Hospital and Health Services hopes to break ground on a new facility in early October if federal funding comes through.

The hospital has applied for a loan program through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to build a 25-bed hospital estimated at $25.9 million.

HUD officials visited the proposed site at Highway 59 and Sherman Road, Edgerton, last week and must make a decision by Sept. 30, said Adam Jelen, project manager with Gilbane Building Company.

The Edgerton Planning Commission approved a site plan for the facility Monday night.

Edgerton doesn't need one. It's another example of deliberately letting an old property go, not maintaining it in order to justify building a new one. The Hospital has plenty of land to expand on and there are at least twenty five rooms in the current hospital. I'm sure it wouldn't cost anywhere near 25 mil to update the current facility.

Look at what Stoughton has done with their hospital. What a great facility! I live a block away from the Edgerton hospital and refuse to go there. What makes anyone think a new facility will have better service???

What are we going to do with all these hospitals when so many people have no health insurance-Its a business. Janesville will have two , Beloit has one and now Edgerton is building a new one. One or more of these will have money problems.

Well that would certainly be an upgrade, the current hospital is a relic.Wonder what their plans are for the old hospital. It does bother me when businesses build new buildings and have no plan for the old one, that should be a stipulation.

Not really. St. Mary's Janesville will be a 50-bed hospital that will cost $140 million (or so, the project has been trimmed a little; it includes a new clinic).

.
Five years back, the 70-bed Mercy Crystal Lake would have cost $80 million.
