Wisconsin soldier killed in Iraq
MONDOVI, Wis. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Defense says a Wisconsin soldier connected with the Oregon Army National Guard has been killed in Iraq.
The military on Saturday identified the soldier as 38-year-old Sgt. Earl D. Werner of Mondovi, Wis.
The Pentagon says he and another soldier died Friday of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked their vehicles.
Both soldiers were assigned to the 41st Special Troops Battalion, 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Oregon Army National Guard in Portland.
Mondovi is in Buffalo County in western Wisconsin, about 25 miles southwest of Eau Claire.

Being close enough to this specific incident I'm not allowed to elaborate, I have every right to make the following statement. What a ridiculous waste of life. Hopefully one day the Army will start using some common sense. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sgt. Werners family, freinds, and unit. Thank you for your service Sgt.
