Janesville police are searching the area around Palmer Park for a robbery suspect this morning.

A man reported that he was walking on Palmer Drive near the dog park when he was struck in the head from behind. The victim reported the suspect then took cash from him and fled.

The victim's injuries did not appear significant, according to the police department.

These Officers are not writing a report to be a best seller. They are detail oriented and everything they write has a purpose." The victim's injuries did not appear significant, according to the police department". Read between the lines !!!!

I understand that the victim was struck from behind, but if JPD recieved some sort of description of the suspect it would be nice to know.

I see no conspiracy in this story. The robber picked the area because there would not be many people out there on a rainy day. No witnesses, no scent for the K-9 unit (rain washed it away). Uusally purse or wallet snatches are hoping for a big payday, or a credit card etc. It seems like a random act of violence. Money was the motive. jmo

Well regardless, I don't carry cash and further more good luck with the results of trying to club me from behind to rob me. Keep in mind there is danger lurking there till (if) they catch him.. For those who are not drama queens wanting to argue bout stupid stuff be safe for the others where a helmet.

It's an isolated area, especially at night. I ride through on my bike a lot and never see anyone else. This was probably a crime of opportunity.

It doesn't say he was exercising his dog. It says that he was walking "near the dog park". The dog park is used for much other than walking the dog. There is a playground there and some of us that work in the area use that park to eat our lunches on nice days.

Inyafaze and ChsMkr Im guessing you dont live in this part of town. Yesterday about 9 am I drove past this area and on my 10 minute drive I saw at least 10 poeple walking and jogging, even though it was raining. There are more when it is sunny out. I know poeple who get ready for work and walk their dogs then go back home and go to work. Meaning they have their cash on them.

If there is an underlying story we will never know because the Gazette won't follow up or report it!

The problem I have is it was a big gamble to rob someone who was exercising there dog. Really. Most the time I work out not carrying any cash or things to move around in pockets.

It doesn't say how much cash it was... could have been $5 for all u know. I drive down that road every day and yes, there are quite a few people walking their dogs or even just out walking. There are a lot of people that use those parking lots for car pooling. Given the lack of details in this early of an article it is hard to say what actually happened. I wouldn't draw any conclusions, Inyafaze, until the full article comes out.

I agree. What is the likelihood of a thief waiting in the rain at that time of the morning in a remote section of the park hoping that someone carrying cash would stroll by? You can almost guarantee that there's an underlying story to follow on this one!

So was it random? How is it that 8 in the morning this guy get's robbed for cash? Cause so many people walk there dogs in the morning with a wallet full of cash right? Maybe he better look close at who knew he had money with him. ???
