MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett isn't ruling out a run for Wisconsin governor, but says he doesn't expect to make a decision for at least a month until he can discuss the issue with his wife.

Barrett told The Associated Press on Thursday it's a big decision, but he wants to focus on his immediate priorities as mayor, including budget issues and public school performance.

The 55-year-old mayor also says he's on the mend following the attack nearly two weeks ago that left him with serious injuries to his head and hand. He says damage to the knuckle of his right middle finger was so severe that he's concerned about whether he'll regain its full use.

The man accused of beating him is 20-year-old Anthony Peters who's due in court Thursday afternoon for a preliminary hearing.

I thought John Norquist was doing a good job as mayor of Milwaukee.
"Norquist's legacy in Milwaukee includes a decline in poverty, a boom in downtown housing, and reforms in both education and welfare" (WIKIPEDIA reference)
He was also a "people person".
I think Norquist should run for Mayor again. Yeah, I know about the affair.
I learned that John Norquist was married to Susan Mudd, great-granddaughter of Samuel Mudd, the doctor who treated John Wilkes Booth. I remember her doing spots on local television, but I never put two and two together.

Curtain call, have family there,

SarahB1- When I heard what happened when I was on a business trip I told my fellow traveler what a great opportunity to run for governor for this action, he is a hero and doyle is and was a mistake. keep in mind that people will do unbelievable things to get what they want, even if it involves getting hurt, watch what happens to the guy who hit him, see how long his sentence is and if the mayor excuses him. some people will take alot of money for some jail time. these are desperate times and anything is possible, the governors pay is very good and you get a pension once you serve one term of over $100,000+ a year plus benefits as well as job afterwards. Also you get to keep the title as GOV before your name. Do not be blind, always look at motive.

wesgonsin, the woman was uninjured. The suspect was only charged with beating Barrett.

There is a Facebook group for fans looking to draft Barrett into the race.
