AG told Doyle domestic partner law was flawed
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has explained why he refused to defend the state's new domestic partnership law in court.
In a letter to Gov. Jim Doyle last week, Van Hollen said he believes the state could offer some benefits to same-sex couples, but not "in this current form."
He said domestic partnerships violate the state's ban on gay marriage by creating a legal status that is "substantially similar" to traditional marriage. He noted the criteria for forming both relationships are nearly identical.
Van Hollen's decision forced Doyle to hire an outside attorney to defend the law against the challenge brought by members of Wisconsin Family Action.

dqandhallie: For you being such a religious nut, I'm surprised at your poor grammar skills. When writing, "God" should be capitalized. "God" is always a proper noun unless you are saying that someone is "a god". Work on your education. Maybe you'll proper grammar and how NOT to be a bigot.

Dqandhallie, what makes you the expert on Gods will? You may not believe that I was born this way, but I and many others do. Can you explain to me why it is so hard for everyone to treat all people as equals in this country? If you were being oppressed for one reason or another, you would probably be screaming as loud as you can to be treated equally. That's all we want.

As for Mr. VanHollen, I still don't agree with his choice not to represent the state. His personal beliefs should have nothing to do with the job he was elected to do. There is proof that the Domestic Partnership law does not violate the marriage amendment. I think that it is sad that his future political aspirations is going to cost us tax payers even more money.

Well, I would prefer that he follow through on his responsibilities, but it's probably better that he recuse himself rather than participate and do a half-hearted job.

Does anyone really care if I'm married or not? I fail to understand how my being married or in a domestic partnership adversely affects you or your marriage.
.
Oh, that's right. It doesn't.
