MILWAUKEE (AP) — A new survey says many people haven't changed their hand washing habits in light of the swine flu outbreak.

The survey was done by the Bradley Corporation of Menomonee Falls, a manufacturer of bathroom and locker room furnishings.

It found 54 percent of the respondents said they "wash their hands no more or less frequently" in public restrooms as a result of the virus. It also found that 87 percent of respondents wash their hands after using public bathrooms, but one percent of those only rinsed with water.

The survey was conducted online July 28-31 and involved 1,020 American adults across the country aged 18 to 65.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says hand washing is critical in preventing illness.

Some people really gross me out how can you not wash your hands after going to the bathroom. If you are reading this and you dont wash your hands - ya you know who you are - start washing your hands.

A lot of these surveys are misleading. I'd be one of the 54% that "wash their hands no more or less frequently in public restrooms." That doesn't mean the message isn't getting through. It means that I've always washed my hands with soap and water every time I use the restroom. I even use a towel to open the door if necessary. It's nothing new. And SwissChick, I know the ones who don't wash their hands in my office. I never eat their food at the potlucks!

It's very disappointing that the message is not getting through. Coughing or sneezing into your elbow is important, too. But hand-washing (and probably occasional face-washing, too) is exceptionally effective at reducing the spread of infections such as the flu virus.

I make the rounds in the local establishments every once in a while and without fail, there are always 3-4 females in the restroom (same ones each time - not in my group) that NEVER wash their hands. IIICCCCCKKKIIIEEEE!

The ones that only rinse their hands with water? People really do that? Nasty.

The ones who conduct surveys about people's public bathroom-washing habits?

Guess who's going to be the first to complain that the government isn't doing enough for them??
