Prison workers on furlough Friday
MADISON — State Department of Corrections workers will take their first furlough day Friday.
The agency says most services to the general public will be unavailable that day. People should call ahead if they’re planning to visit a corrections office or institution. State prisons will reduce staffing to holiday levels.
Gov. Jim Doyle has ordered all state workers to take 16 days furlough before July 1, 2011, to save money.

by law the governor can't be furloughed, but Doyle is giving back 16 days of pay during the next 2 fiscal years.
