Wisconsin commerce agency to lay off employees
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Department of Commerce says it plans to lay off up to 15 employees from its safety and buildings division.
Commerce Secretary Dick Leinenkugel warned employees last week the job cuts were coming as a result of the downturn in the construction and building industries.
The division reviews plans for proposed construction projects, inspects buildings and amusement park rides to ensure safety, and issues credentials to building contractors. It has about 150 employees total.
The department's executive assistant Zach Brandon says the division is funded by the fees that businesses and contractors pay for services and is operating at a deficit.
He says the layoffs "are unfortunate" but necessary.

150 Employees? This post could probably get by with 20 people scattered about the state with little travel to get the job done...... Lets see -130 State paid employees well that should helpwith the deficit! Doyle can't be gone soon enough!!!!!!! Someone needs to actually keep track of our spending (not just forcasted spending) Once our government is turned back around and this CRAZY spending spree is cut off (and it can't be soon enough) only then will we get back on track to a profitable economy!!!!!!!!! Whats behind door #2 Hey it's another bailout for a minority that hasn't paid a house payment or any other bill for 6 months! So thats how we get a bail-out check IE Stimulious Check!!!!! I'm so sorry that I'm broke and responsible otherwise I could get some of that free Government money!!!! What A CROCK OF Sh&@
