Not much will ever be known about the four revolvers found in Lake Delton’s muck after the lake emptied during flooding in last summer.

Lake Delton police detective Kurt Goodreau says the firearms were sent to the state crime lab in Madison. All investigators could conclude is the weapons were over 50 years old because there were so few digits in the serial numbers.

He says two of the four manufacturers aren’t even around anymore.

He says he hoped they were from bank robber John Dillinger and his gang, who were in Wisconsin in the 1930s. They were found about the time crews were filming "Public Enemies" in the state.

They were in a safety position, leading police to believe someone disposed of them because they didn’t have use for them.
