MILWAUKEE (AP) — Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett continues to recover from a severe beating he suffered when he intervened in a domestic dispute, and even stopped by City Hall on Friday.

Pat Curley, the mayor’s chief of staff, tells WISN-TV that Barrett spent about 90 minutes at the office — long enough to say hello to his staff read some of his get well messages.

Curley also says Barrett’s doctors say it will take another six to eight weeks before they can determine if the mayor will need additional surgery for his injuries.

The 55-year-old mayor has been downplaying his efforts to help a woman who was crying for help Saturday night. Police say a man beat Barrett with a metal bar after he tried to call 911.

Prosecutors have charged the 20-year-old man with two felonies and two misdemeanors.
