No sign of girl reported abducted in Oshkosh
OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) — Police in Oshkosh are searching for an explanation after they received a report of the abduction of a girl, but haven’t received a report of anyone missing a child.
Wisconsin authorities issued an Amber Alert on Wednesday after receiving a report that a girl between 12 and 14 was abducted while walking in Oshkosh.
Yet despite dozens of tips and the Amber Alert, police say they still don’t have a matching missing person report or any substantiated leads.
Police are now asking anyone who was involved in a situation that could be misinterpreted as a violent abduction about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at W. Linwood Avenue and Walnut Street to call them so they can resolve the investigation.
The Amber Alert was allowed to expire.

I saw this boy's account of what happened on the news. He kept referring to her as a "lady" and that he saw her get tied up. Who decided that it was actually a young girl? Was there another witness?

I'm afraid there are few other interpretations, janesvillemom. Stranger abductions are dramatic but extremely rare. 99% of missing children are runaways, or family abductions (custody disputes), or are otherwise outside the definition of criminal kidnapping.

.
This was handled correctly, the Amber Alert was appropriate, but I hope the investigation means that the kid is given a lesson in crying wolf and how that saps the resources of law enforcement.

I hope this wasn't a case of a bored 11-year old with a big imagination! The amount of detail he provided was incredible considering this had to have happened quickly.
