Corvina's owner plans to stay open
The operator of Corvina’s bar said she’s not closing anytime soon and will fight the eviction process the landlord started.
Janelle Barlass called the Gazette on Wednesday to say she wanted to correct the impression the bar would close next week.
As reported in Wednesday’s Gazette, the landlord has begun the eviction process. Barlass said she intends to fight the eviction in court.
The police brought complaints about Corvina’s to the city’s Alcohol License Advisory Committee in May. Barlass has appeared before the committee twice.
Landlord Fred Shahlapour said he was not sure when the eviction will occur. Wisconsin law allows for tenants to contest evictions in court, and Barlass said she intends to do so.

Maybe she expects the landlord to come and clean the toilets for her. I think we will be hearing from Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton before too long because she says the landlord called her mother a b*&^h. That works every time.

" just cause you rent doesnt mean if YOU break thing that landlord has to fix it."
I absolutely cannot stand tennants whom have this FALSE mentality. Rent must be paid irregardlessly or you will be evicted. If the problem is so gross and negligent on the landlords part then the city would step in and fine the establishment or shut it down, as you see neither has happened. She is simply using this as a tactic to try to strong arm the landlord. She's a deadbeat loser.

What good would ever come from contesting an eviction? Seriously???? If you were smart Janelle Barlass you would cut your losses and get the heck outta dodge before you lose any more money (that ya may not have even had to begin with)! Your business isn't going to make it now anyway because people don't respect it.

So Sarahb1, why is it an "eviction" and why is there "more than meets the eye on both sides" if the fact of the matter is she doesn't pay her rent? Looking at court records the previous tenants ended up paying the landlord as well after the court heard both sides. I see nothing in the courts that puts the landlord on the wrong side of this situation or any other.

I never thought of it this way, but the Gazette can reduce its operating costs to get news when all they have to do is have a reporter walk across the street.

Thanks for doing the city a great service keeping this crime ridden dump open. Talk about sprucing up the downtown. I honestly hope this place burns to the ground, Or they have a whiskey tasting event along with a gun show in the bar at the same time.

Shut the dump down. Has nothing to do with diversity. Has everything to do with someone that's not capable of running a respectable establishment and controlling their cliental. There has been multiple bars in that same building and location? None have survived.

Do you see a pattern here? She and Andreah Briarmoon must be cousins...First the police are against her. Then the ALAC is against her. Now her landlord is against her. If she spent half the time running her business as she does "fighting" everyone, she might be successful. When people continue to make stupid decisions, does that make them....?
