UW-Madison alumni can sign up for job alerts
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Unemployed University of Wisconsin-Madison graduates now have a new tool to find job opportunities.
The Wisconsin Alumni Association said Wednesday that graduates can sign up to receive alerts for job openings through the Badger Career Network.
The network connects employers with 350,000 UW-Madison alumni. The service is available to Wisconsin employers and is expected to expand to companies around the country.
The new service comes as the alumni association has heard from more graduates who have been laid off because of the downturn in the economy. Also, employers who have trouble finding qualified workers in specialized fields such as biotechnology and health care want the service.
The network is on the Web at uwalumni.com/careers.

I am a UW-Madison grad, quite proud of it, and am thankful that the alumni association is providing this service.
I am however not proud of the comments by aj131. The UW extension schools, the UW-colleges (like UW-Rock) and the UW-System schools (like Whitewater) are great schools and serve their students quite well, and as observantreader commented, the faculty at the system/extentsion/colleges are excellent. We are lucky to have such resources here in the Badger State (which aj131 we are called not because of the UW-Madison mascot, but because of the badger-like burrowing habits while seeking/building shelter of the welsh lead miners who came to Wisconsin in the early 1800s)

aj131, UW-Madison is not "simply a better school". Just because it has so many more students than other UW schools you cannot argue that makes it better. Many of the other UW schools are actually better learning institutions, offer smaller class sizes, and have just as, if not more, qualified professors. Also, many of these schools do have career network options for graduates. Your final comment "why would they even bother?" shows the overall ignorance of your post. Obviously they would bother (and have) because they are just as concerned about where their graduates end up as UW-Madison is.

Contact the extension schools if you care. UW Madison is simply a better school - which is why they set up programs like this. Do you think extension schools have such large and active alumni communities? Or do you think they have ANYTHING like the Badger Career Network? Why would they (the extension schools) even bother?

Are there similar programs for other UW extension schools? UW-Madison grads are not the only ones looking for jobs.
