Prosecution witness will not take stand in man's murder trial
By Janine Anderson, The Racine Journal-Times
ELKHORN - A volatile prosecution witness will not take the stand in the murder trial for a Burlington man accused of killing his wife.
Carol Badoni, David Brossard's one-time girlfriend, will not be called to testify, said District Attorney Phil Koss.
David Brossard, 40, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for allegedly killing Dawn Brossard. Dawn Brossard disappeared in 1997. Her body was found at the bottom of Geneva Lake in 2003. David Brossard was charged in 2008.
At Brossard's preliminary hearing, Badoni testified that David Brossard told her he planned to harm his wife, and described doing exactly what happened to Dawn Brossard. She said then that he sat on her couch and told her: "(W)hen he caught her cheating on him he was going to kill her, wrap her up in chains with the damn cinder blocks and put her in the lake. ... He'd follow her to the damn bar, watch her cheating on him then come boohooing to me."
Defense attorney Charles Blumenfield attacked her credibility at the preliminary hearing, and it is likely that he would have done so again, had she testified at trial. Blumenfield said Badoni's removal from the witness list is likely to change his opening statement to the jury - which will be made after the jury is picked.
Blumenfield finished questioning the jurors after 2:15 p.m. He asked questions about their employment, their experiences with lawyers, and if they could refrain from posting information about the trial on any social networking sites they may use.

Seeing the gross misunderstandings of our judicial process here on Gazettextra daily, I am pleased that the Gazette writers occasionally state the obvious.
.
If you are familiar with the AP stylebook, it dictates practices such as spelling out acronyms on first use, even when they're well known, simply to avoid confusion. In other words, don't assume too much of a common base of knowledge.

It's not very surprising, but it is true. I will have to give her credit for that.
